I really didn’t want to like this album. Aging rocker with no new material plays 1950s covers. It just seemed lazy. Boy was I wrong! In spite of myself, I love this bouncing, buoyant celebration of all that’s good about the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. The musicianship on Accentuate the Positive (2023) is outstanding and Morrison fits casually into their groove as he was born to do. Even the old chestnut, ‘You Are My Sunshine’ swings like you wouldn’t believe. But what is Apple Music doing calling this ‘Alternative Folk’ (at one point they were describing it as ‘Blues’)? Maybe it’s an AI error but it takes a special kind of stupid that only a human being can exhibit to describe this as ‘folk’ or ‘blues’. This is pure and simple rock ‘n’ roll. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the best recordings in 2023. Sound is fantastic.
It looks like Van dug through his old 45s from the fifties and sixties and gave these classics his special style and bluesy treatment A very enjoyable and great sounding album.
Edited one year agofantastic sounding vinyl. warm, spacious, separation, dynamics, it's all there. The material is nice, performed well, but it is just a bunch of mostly familiar standards.
