Reviews
- Edited 10 months agoThis is my first Japanese import and I am blown away at the attention to detail and care that went into preparing this set. I only wish US pressings, specifically boxed sets, got this much love. Superb!
- Interesting addition to the (imo underrated) original At Budokan. One LP with unissued songs would have been enough. (Side remark: pressing is OK but old (undamaged) vinyl sounds better in this case 😇)
- Fitting companion piece to an often maligned live album (I always loved Budokan). Though I think they could have sacrificed certain repeat tracks and given us a few that weren’t on the original LP.
Tomorrow Is a Long Time… is the highlight. - Thus far I love everything about this set. Sonically it’s fantastic. Dylanologists might chirp about the performances relative to later in this tour, but so it goes. This alimony tour was pretty singular, which is saying something. Aesthetically the package is superb. The whole thing is a keeper. If you’re looking getting it, you’re already the target market so I’d say dooooo ittttt
- Great sound on this one overall with crisp drums and clean vocals with no sibilance. Decently quiet vinyl with some areas of mild surface noise. One LP was warped that I was able to flatten. Love the song selections and renditions, including some true deep cuts he never really played before or after this era.
- The box is very nice to see and it’s well done with quality print. Vinyls sounds very well and the Japanese memorabilia is beautiful. I just have one criticism. The box itself is a little bit too thin to hold 8 vinyls, memorabilia and booklet. It’s good for the cd’s box set. You have to handle it with care because it could become damaged over time. With what it costs they could do better also making it completely closed.
- In case you’re wondering, this is very well done. The mastering and pressing quality are both excellent. Love the cover photo, and the packaging is high quality throughout. Someone will complain about the record sleeves so, yes, they are not awesome, but they can and should be swapped out for some better ones. You know the drill.
- Edited one year agoBox set of the year for me. These concert recordings (just as far as SQ and mastering choices) are much better than what is on the original Budokan album in many cases (plus there is a bunch of stuff that isn't on there, of course), and taken as a totality it's like a dream Dylan concert x2. Has all the best trappings of the Rolling Thunder era *and* the Gospel era, and Dylan sounds like a warm and appreciative showman throughout. More stage chatter than usually makes its way onto these compilations. Utterly whisper-quiet standard weight vinyl - does not feel cheap, flexible, etc - frankly a nice change of pace from these heavy audiophile slabs and completely, completely flat. Worth every penny and more. Buy it before it's gone.
