Hmmm! First off, how to actually review this? The CD versions have the 1st six tracks on one CD (sub 40mins so old -school album length). The other 10 add up to a more substantial listen, but is it the finished article, VdGG love their jam improv after all? Ok, so taking this as a single album with a decent-sized lump of extras, what are we into? Well for my ears and tastes the 'album' channels the spirit of Pawn Hearts on the 1st couple of tracks, then things go really off the boil with three directionless and slightly unpleasant (clipped / distorted / cramped) sounding central tracks. Track 6 revives sagging interest with a sweet, quiet (relatively!) ballad. Tracks 7 to 16 are interesting and are instrumentals. Some better ideas lie unpolished here than in the 'album' part. 'Very patchy' is the overall summation.
