The playing is amazing. Jan has always favored a lot of reverb and ECM is known for an expansive room sound. Regardless of your opinion on the production aspect of the overall sound, which I totally disagree with, the band is killing and Jan has never sounded better. This recording is a superb document of a great band and overall AllMusic gives it 4 1/2 stars. To each his own, but there's nothing "poor" about this effort.

This is a poor recording: I hate tha arena-style reverb and the muted sound of the drums.
