Notes

The Snow Goose is the third studio album by the band Camel, recorded January 1975 and released in April/May 1975. The critical success[ of "The White Rider" suite (based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and appearing on the band's previous 1974 album, Mirage) inspired the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites.

This pressing lacks bottom. Seems to be rolled off around 80Hz. A typical 80's pressing. I've compared it to the original UK pressing, the MOV 2011, and Decca-90 2019 pressings. I cannot recommend this one.

I do not agree with the others on this one. This is a much weaker pressing than the Music On Vinyl 2011 - which is stunning.
The mastering lacks details. The instruments isn't as clear and prominent, and the level is low, matching the digital 0db limit, which gives me a sense that they used the same mastering for both CD and vinyl, which is a big no.
I have four different pressings of this record, and I have compared them carefully. I cannot recommend this one.

Is it just my luck? This pressing seems to crackle all the way through even though it looks fantastic. Same is true for this other German release: https://www.discogs.com/release/6619280 and also to a slightly lesser degree, this German release: https://www.discogs.com/release/6619280. They all look shiny minty. I'm still looking for a nice playing version after 3 attempts!

An outlier in Camels first quartet of albums that has mixed feeling all around it. While Camel is well recognized as an instrumentally led band, here the story like sequence just feels tacked on and searching without a satisfying payoff. Camel would replicate this formula later on on Nude and Dust and Dreams, but this feels like its stood the test of time a lot better then them at least.

Anyone else notice a sort of left channel muting at the start of Rhayader (the flute intro)? not a complete shutdown but noticeable, and then the left channel returns to normal as the rest of the instruments come in. Is it a problem with the vinyl or the tape they used? or is it just my copy?
