Notes

The Snow Goose is the third studio album by the band Camel, recorded January 1975 and released in April/May 1975. The critical success[ of "The White Rider" suite (based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and appearing on the band's previous 1974 album, Mirage) inspired the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites.

Originally released in May 1975 as Decca SKL-R 5207

Performed by:
Andrew Latimer – guitar; vocals / Peter Bardens – organ, Mellotron, piano, VCS 3 synthesizer; vocals / Doug Ferguson – bass guitar; vocals / Andy Ward (2) – drums, percussion

Very good pressing. A prog classic that belongs in everyone's collection.

Anyone else notice a sort of left channel muting at the start of Rhayader (the flute intro)? not a complete shutdown but noticeable, and then the left channel returns to normal as the rest of the instruments come in. Is it a problem with the vinyl or the tape they used? or is it just my copy?

I have a misprint of this where the information on the label on side B is missing, anyone else have this?

"Rhayader Alone" is one of my favourite pieces of music ever composed. Too beautiful for words.

I love classic Progressive Rock, but almost every album from that time has songs that I don’t like. “The Snow Goose” is the only classic Prog Rock album that I love all tracks. Sometimes this album sounds like a movie soundtrack. It has lots of different moments and emotions. It is great in many aspects. One of the most uplifting compositions that I know.

This release – pressed by Record Industry – sounds great and looks great, but it crackles meaningly. That’s because this record attracts a lot of static energy here in Brazil – a typically hot and dry place. This record attracts more static energy than all the vinyl records I have in my small collection.

If you don’t live in dry places or you don’t mindcrackling vinyl records or you have anti-static tools, this record is a timeless masterpiece! ♥️

Have to agree. Sounds fabulous. Very quiet, nicely engineered and well pressed. Every prog rock fans dream.
I’m surprised at how good the musicianship is. These guys have real chops. Recommended

This is one of those albums that I don't really "get"... And I'm not talking down on the music, I just think something about it doesn't strike me. It's not that I don't understand the music either. I'm well versed on different styles and prog and all that, and musically it's not that far out. Some segments sound great, others a bit more pedestrian, but the flow of the movements doesnt seem to work that well, particularly on side 1. The pieces don't seem to flow exceptionally well in and out of each other, and the order in which the musical movements are arranged doesn't always seem to make much sense. To put it simply: The material is there, but the modality isn't.
With all that criticism in mind, it's still a good album and I enjoy it. Maybe it'll click after more listens, maybe it won't. Either way it's not one to discard.

I am ashamed.... For forty years I have been listening to "Rock" as a general and honestly thought I had heard all that was needed to be heard!! How wrong I am, this is just a stunning, moving, orchestrated, monumental piece of work... My copy just came from a closing down record shop sale and is as dirty as..... Yet I have still had to play the whole album through. This Canadian copy is just stunning and when it's clean....... I'll probably go out and buy all the 'Camel' I can get my hands on...

One of the best sounding LPs in my collection. Silent, clear and punchy, this reissue rocks! And one of Camel's finest.

This record sounds absolutely fantastic. A wonderful album every prog fan should own.
