This 12" single has been reissued in 2024 for its 40th anniversary cat# DMSR80840 in various marble colour schemes in a picture sleeve & some one off hand drawn sleeves, distributed by the Egyptian Lover himself if you follow his social media posts.

I moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and one of my earliest memories was the older kids on the block blasting "Egypt, Egypt." Good times.

1st press variation also available: all exactly as per the listing, minus the wide label groove, just the smaller circle. 100% authentic, you can tell by the indent from the pressing head its of the time. Hard to accept this has peaked at around £15 for the highest sale on the 'Oggs; a genuine 1st press would exchange hands for double that back in the mid 90's!!!!

does anyone know the official runtimes on the tracks on this original 12"? I have this actual 12" myself but short of ripping it to a CD, I don't remember the runtimes...

the pic shows that there is indeed text that says "manufactured and distributed by... etc." that's what it says in text that curves along the bottom of the label. the comment that "there is no mfg and dist by text" belongs on this release: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=43329

Egyptian Lover was so unique and a musical freak. Dude was long on talent and funkiness. I thought he was so original with his name too. Not long after everybody was "egyptian this, or arabian that". EL did borrow from other artists and their influence is noted in many of EL's songs (i.e., Prince), but EL never sounded like a retread.

This record Egypt Egypt started a movement in the hip hop / electro game. Between EL and Dr. Dre and the WCWC, I can't say more artists had the kind of influence this record had. And the great thing about it is that it's not his only superb jam. EL is very talented and has many more works to get into. Check him with Uncle Jamms Army as well.

this record was my startup on electro...the sheer unstoppable intro even pisses off tour de france by kraftwerk, (which is hardly possible), that crazy comic like egyptian melody in the middle is just crazy, and the breakdown is legendary!
