The Greg Foat Group ‎– Dark Is The Sun

Genre:
Style:

Year:
Notes:
Recorded in Sweden, ‘Dark is the Sun’ is a concept album based on themes and variations by British pianist/composer/arranger Greg Foat, who has created an intriguing blend of non-contemporary jazz sounds with classic scoring techniques. An exotic array of unorthodox instrumentation was utilized, including harpsichord, tubular bells and a 15 piece choir. With musical reference and influence from such luminaries as Bruno Nicolai, Michel Legrand and Serge Gainsbourg as well as a firm nod towards UK jazzmen Michael Garrick, Keith Mansfield and Alan Hawkshaw, the result is highly-listenable, enduring and fulfilling for those who like real music played with real instruments.

I can only agree with the comments below: the music is fantastic, but a terrible pressing. I sent one copy back to Jazzman, explaining where the worst flaws were, only to receive a replacement with exactly the same problems. Unforgiveable really. Wish I'd read the comments here before buying!

Returned my copy, terrible pressing with pops and clicks even after a clean. Weird pressing dimples as well. Uncharacteristic for Jazzman I think. Clearly, a lot of love went into this, just let down by MPO.

Very bad pressing. A pity because everything else about the album is great. I didn’t play this for a couple of months after buying, so I can’t return it. So it shall sit on my shelf gathering dust, because the constant clicks make it pretty unlistenable.

Beautiful heavyweight gatefold / so nice mastering and terrible pressing with a lot of clicks and pops. I'm disappointed. Vinyl cleaned twice in Okki Nokki.

Disappointingly, I've listened to three copies of this pressing and all have exactly the same defects- visible dimples on the surface of vinyl and a number of pops/clicks. This is a real shame because it is a great album.

I have the first pressing and the second...both good, but the second seems to be a better pressing.

My copy has annoying clicks and pops in the right channel through the whole side A. Probably non-fill defect. Side B is quiet though. Nevertheless, the album is brilliant, so I'll try to buy another copy!
