The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State sponsored tour of Eurasia, such as when he observed in Turkey a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music. Columbia president Goddard Lieberson took a chance to underwrite and release Time Out. It received negative reviews by critics upon its release, but despite this, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums, charting highly on the popular albums chart when 50,000 units sold for a jazz album was impressive. It consequently produced a Top 40 hit single in "Take Five", composed by Paul Desmond, and the one track not written by Dave Brubeck. The cover art is just as important as the LP itself featuring specific artwork created by S. Neil Fujita best known for his covers for CBS Records, which introduced abstract art to jazz LP packaging.

Sounds pretty good to me. I've got a pretty modest setup I'm sure, by discogs standards. But I don't see anything wrong with this record at all. Deep, rich, sweet. Much like myself.- Good and clean sound. Purchased online from Target. Sounds real clean. Happy with value. Perfect for my situation.

It is my first 45 PRM audiophile record and I am completely blown away with it:
- the amount of bass (as overall dynamic range) is incredible
- the instruments sound much more realistic than on previous releases I had
- the record is mixed and mastered well (Paul Desmond sounds accented, yet neither harsh nor overly amplified)
The other nice stuff is loudness, signal to noise ratio and low surface noise. The envelops and printing quality is great as well.
I wish to find "Moanin'" and a few jazz-classic albums of such quality.- Great sounding pressing. I believe liner notes on both the 180g and the 200g state, "RECORDING IS DESIGNED FOR USE ON 45 RPM STEREOPHONIC REPRODUCERS.' This is a 33 1/3 RPM. Not sure how they missed that, but it's very misleading as to the kind of sound you're going to get. Alas, the record sounds wonderful.

Exactly the same catalog number and barcode as the stereo-only SACD - derp!- A review on Amazon Japan claims this was a limited run of 1000 copies, and released by Sony Hong Kong.
- Given that the recording matters mostly, this one is simply a grand recording.
Impossible to unhear that sound. Utterly terrific. One of the best sounding Jazz rem/rei by Classic Records.
Imo, preferable to the AP 45 rpm as a) the sound is fresher since from fresher tapes and b) this 33 1/3 is already so great sounding, no need to flip the discs every few minutes.
For the last bit of better sound, of course, get the Classic Records 45 rpm version.
