Notes
The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State sponsored tour of Eurasia, such as when he observed in Turkey a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music. Columbia president Goddard Lieberson took a chance to underwrite and release Time Out. It received negative reviews by critics upon its release, but despite this, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums, charting highly on the popular albums chart when 50,000 units sold for a jazz album was impressive. It consequently produced a Top 40 hit single in "Take Five", composed by Paul Desmond, and the one track not written by Dave Brubeck. The cover art is just as important as the LP itself featuring specific artwork created by S. Neil Fujita best known for his covers for CBS Records, which introduced abstract art to jazz LP packaging.

This 6 eye pressing sounds damn good. I don’t think you can go wrong with these early pressings. If you have a mono switch or sum the cables, or have a mono cart, a VG record will sound very good with few clicks heard. - Edited 2 days ago

This pressing sounds damn good. I have a 1962 2 Eye mono and this is a touch better, and it sounds damn good too. I don’t think you can go wrong with these early copies. If you have a mono switch or sum the cables, or have a mono cart, a VG record will sound very good with few clicks heard. - The first record that I bought new, I am a newbie. Compared with other media, this conversion of the album sounds really nice to me, really clean and detailed. I cannot compare it to other versions on vinyl. My only concern is that the "clear virgin vinyl" is full of specs inside, giving the impression that is not clean

I am not a big fan of Japanese records. Their pressing quality was top notch but their mastering/source material was always hit or miss. Mastering usually is bright or a bit muffled. Example - Beatles Revolver is harsh sounding and Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters sounds a bit muffled.
However, this record is absolute analog pureness! Sounds punchy, dynamic and very clear. I have no interest to seek a more audiophile version of this record.

These 2 Eye labeled pressings sound really good and can be had a little cheaper than the 6 Eye labeled pressings. Well worth it and IMO, the mono recordings are much better than the hard panned stereo recordings. - Solid pressing overall. I'm a fan of this series—it was generally done with care and consistency. Definitely worth picking up, especially given the low price point. That said, don’t expect top-tier sonics—this doesn’t come close to the older pressings in terms of sound quality.

Mine is in PVC jacket, not shrink. 2024, 180g, black- Edited one month agoThis one, aside from sounding amazing, actually has a beautiful transparent gold disc with an embossed cover art on the CD face. Nice!
