Notes
The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State sponsored tour of Eurasia, such as when he observed in Turkey a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music. Columbia president Goddard Lieberson took a chance to underwrite and release Time Out. It received negative reviews by critics upon its release, but despite this, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums, charting highly on the popular albums chart when 50,000 units sold for a jazz album was impressive. It consequently produced a Top 40 hit single in "Take Five", composed by Paul Desmond, and the one track not written by Dave Brubeck. The cover art is just as important as the LP itself featuring specific artwork created by S. Neil Fujita best known for his covers for CBS Records, which introduced abstract art to jazz LP packaging.

Is anyone else getting a bunch of distortion on the highs? Record does sound great, but that distortion sucks.

Excellent sounding pressing. I’ve had it for many years, and it’s still selling for very reasonable prices.
Acoustic Sounds for the win - sounds awesome. I have heard the 45 as well and this 33 is nearly as strong. Must own.

Am I the only one that have some difficulty with higher pitch with this pressing?

Sounds incredible. Now...what year is this? I found this for $19 in a Toronto used records store.
This release is more than 60 years old and it sounds fantastic! One of my best records in my collection. I own a copy in pretty good shape, so much fun to listen.
Edited one month agoEchoing other comments here but this is practically perfect. Ever so slightly off centre on side b but apart from that, great stuff. Was a bargain too. I wish all new LPs were like this.- Really nice release. My copy is clean and sounds clear, open and dynamic. I think one of my best vinyls i own. No surface noise or crackle. If you dont own one version of this album i would recommend this one.

as the Terre Haute mono pressings have a T in the matrix and a 3 on right lower, I suspect the backwards 3 stereo version goes with the matrix run out that has the T in it, as well. Kinda makes sense to sort out stereo/mono and which sleeve to put it in....one man's hypothesis.- Edited one month ago

I am noting a discrepancy between two stereo versions. In my detective work I am thinking the backwards 3 jacket "belongs" with the vinyl that is stamped in the matrix that includes the T. the number and T both point to Terre haute. input please on this.
