Pantera – Cowboys From Hell

Yeah, this really has to be cranked! You really need a high current amp to really enjoy it. Great separation and soundstage, but Phil seems to be screaming from behind everyone. This a classic album, so it's nice to have this... for now.

The 5th album from PANTERA ("Cowboys from hell" from 1990) is their second best one, it's really good!

Whoa, this 24-bit 96kHz remaster sounds like one of those High Dynamic Range albums. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. There's no ear daggers or boomy bass to contend with. As a result this can be played very loud, and should be ;)

It's weird how my copy has a typical "Made In Czech Republic" sticker, indicating it would be a GZ press. But the deadwax has MPO (France) and the small text on the back says Made In France. There are no 'digital' deadwax GZ indicators. Did MPO ship stampers to GZ to keep up with orders? Why would there be a GZ sticker on there?

I do agree it's a quieter master, and should be a 2lp. You can't really cut a loud, heavy album on 1LP without compromising volume to retain dynamics. Just turn your volume up. It's not the best, but not the worst. It plays well.

My copy have 37 and 39 etched instead of 24 and 26 and i cant find any info
Anywone know?

Say, how many albums are there of almost 30 minutes per side that sound this good?
My press is really very quiet in terms of clicks, pops and various crackling noises, and although I had to turn up the volume (due to the high playing time), the surface noise is almost absent.
Perhaps being a single disc, the audio resolution will be slightly lower than the double-disc version (which I haven't listened to), but this release sure is really enjoyable. Thank you MPO .

The image quality on front and back is soo poor... they just scan the cd booklet as you can see on the top of the back cover. Sound is good.

Ridiculously good sounding. Good low end and clarity in the vocals, and the stereo separation on Dime's guitars is ridiculous. Grab one of these as soon as you can!

Has anyone noticed that some of the important details are different between the 2010 Rhino re-issue of Cowboys from Hell and the 2020 Rhino re-issue of it?

In the 2020 version, although the notes say this was a re-issue of this 2010 Rhino pressing, the matrix numbers are different, this 2010 version is Pressed by Rainbo Records and Mastered at Masterdisk. Whereas the 2020 is Mastered at GZ and Pressed by Memphis Record Pressing. This should mean that they sound different, right?

If not, why do they both have different mastering locations. Also, because the matrix numbers are different, doesn't that mean they come from different plates? Does someone happen to have both versions to compare? Are there any notable differences? I also noticed in the comments here that the 2010 version that a lot of people complaining that their styluses skip due to the mastering choices. I don't see any mention of that in the 2020 "re-issue".

What does everyone think? I'm curious on your thoughts
