Yes – Going For The One

There are no really excellent masterings of GFTO. This HDCD, when decoded, is IMO the best of the bunch.

The AF SACD is quite overrated here - it's veiled and rolled-off sounding. Original 1980s CD isn't bad. This is now my go-to.

Not all the Japanese HDCD releases are worth it - but this one is.

As someone who has listened to this and the original 1988 CD release, I think that this one sounds almost exactly the same as the original CD release (and very close to the recent high-res digital downloads). Early CD releases are cheap and sound very VERY close to this, to the point where it's nearly impossible to ABX.

Get an original CD release for peanuts, avoid the 90s/2000s remasters, and you'll be fine - it's not worth spending the extra money for a mastering that's indistinguishable from the original CD issue.

At first Going is not a good sounding album,.Having a lot of cds a.o Rhino and Audio Fidelity AFz 157, which sounds very bad and horrible. This Japanese remaster is the only one which can give the power of this album. Is it perfect:no, but one of the best to try. Please don't let SW ruin another Yes album Ps tested on Primare CD35 and MarantzUD7007.

This cd sounds absolutely amazing, and is my new go-to for this album. I did not expect it to be head and shoulders over the original vinyl, original cd, Marino, Gastwirt (Yesyears box), and Inglot masterings, but it beats them easily, and they all have their strong points. Dynamics and depth galore. Every instrument and voice benefits on this cd. I almost never go so far as to say this about any mastering, but this one really makes it feel like the first time you are hearing the album.

This is the only copy with George Piros's involvement ... And many of these copies being sold here are not the right one's I can tell you that for sure. I was lucky that a seller was kind enough to work with me making sure this was the George Piros copy. Who was George Piros ... He was to Yes that Eddie Offord was at the recording mixing ... With this album the story with Piros it seems like they hired him to take the mess that engineer made and the not one but two different mastering engineers to work this LP out ... They didn't ... So US Atlantic hired George Piros to lacquer cut they're mess to straighten it out .. I don't know anyone have that feeling looking at this. It looks like the last copy that was released in 1977. Although there's a 1978 one but no George Piros

Get the original vinyl. Still nothing comes close to it. This and Relayer are too of the poorest Friday Music issues - the mastering is dreadful.

This 2017 picture edition of 1977 classic "Going For The One" is remarkably quiet. Nice dynamics, good job. Not bad for a copy I watched just sit & sit at Barnes & Noble at Tempe Marketplace for about four years. They finally marked it down to around $14. I said today "This need a home , tired of seeing it" It was till was sealed.

Perfect version indeed. Worth every penny...yes, this is it !!!

My pressing is fine no pops or crackles. Sounds amazing. Crisp & clear, a joy to listen to.

Until SW gets his hands on the master tapes, this is probably the best sound you’ll get out of GFTO, at least on CD. I’ve owned US and Japanese vinyl pressings, and both were too bright and distorted. I just hope the album eventually gets the remix that it deserves
