sounds really good compared to my heavily worn and kinda noisy early German press on Nova. i plan on getting a clean German Decca press soon to hopefully replace both of these, but until then, this Rare Earth reissue is doing a nice job of filling in.
not sure if the entire pressing is warped, but my personal copy has a fairly bad warp to it. it plays without skipping, but you can hear more than a bit of needle wobble in the run-in groove and the spaces between tracks. this is why i avoid 180g pressings at all costs. for starters, theres no sonic difference between 180g and a standard weight pressing. if you believe (or are convinced) there is, you know nothing about the manufacture of vinyl records. also, they are really hard to warp (the only advantage they have over standard weight), but once they do, its trashed. you cant clamp it, and you cant fix it. youre stuck with a high-priced piece of trash. - Edited 2 years ago

The order is pretty clear:
The Beacon label has started in Charles Street, London in 1968. In 1969 they moved to Willesden High Road, London. Finally, in or around 1970, they moved to Seymore Place, London.
This can be followed chronologically on some of the label's covers. Since only the LP with the black and white Beacon label BEAS 12 shows the (second) address Willesden High Road and the LP with the orange Beacon label BES 12 bearing the third address Seymore Place (as well as the two "Flying“ BEAS 19 and BES 19, among other later outcome from this label) it is only logical, that the black and white Beacon BEAS 12 came out first.
In addition, the black and white labeled "Flying" BEAS 19 has an inner sleeve that shows the same group picture as on the back of the orange labeled version of "U.F.O. 1“ (BES 12). Using the same image a year apart wouldn't make sense.
Rather, I could understand if it was used as an additional promo for the repress of the first LP around the same time.
Last but not least: I have all these pressings. In my opinion there is no difference soundwise.
I can't judge whether the orange-labeled versions are rarer. Both are definitely collectible. referencing UFO 1 (LP, Album, Reissue) AKA 3
this was a decent uk only budget release w/ alternative sleeve as you can see released on the A.K.A. label back in 1982, A.K.A. did all 3 mick bolton titles.......- this was a really nice white vinyl reissue of the debut ufo album from 1970, gate records cmbh did a run of the mick bolton era ufo albums on white vinyl in 1988 that include UFO 1, UFO 2(FLYING) UFO LIVE IN JAPAN & a reissue of the 1976 2 lp german compilation that was originally released on nova records in 1976 ONE HOUR SPACE METAL... all on white vinyl, by 1988 the cd boom was well on its way & taking over fast worldwide!!! i find all of these german gate records releases seem to have been very limited as they are quite scarce, i LOVE everything ufo did from the bolton era, through schenker, chapman ( forget atomik tommy mclendon sorry) & on to the archer album high stakes and dangerous men lp from 1992 and back to schenker again and then to vinnie moore, anyway since i have always been in a minority w/ how much i love the bolton era these are some great records to have but again they come scarce probably becouse ( as i said ) by 1988 the cd boom was on and these where all budget releases and not many where printed is my guess........
- i have ( i dont know) how many copies of this great debut by ufo from 51 years back, anyway as decades have passed this album has finally got a lot more attention in the us, & worldwide as a bit of a cult classic ufo lp wich did very well 51 years ago in (JAPAN, GERMANY & FRANCE) only, anyway this comes on nice quality vinyl and sounds pretty decent to me, i compared the sound on THIS 180 G disc to my original 1970 white label beacon records copy and honestly the first press sounds a bit better then this, i also compared this disc to my original 1970 japan ( black vinyl) edition and i would say this sounds a bit more the same as the original japan copy on MY SYSTEM , this does not sound to compressed to me but a bit, i waited to get this as like i said i have been into this record now for like the past 43 years, this is still a worthy copy, i always have loved this lp!!! great hard bluesy rock!!!!! its not the schenker era ufo are best known for but then again, this came out 3 years before schenker joined ufo in 1973 & ufo where a different sounding band altogether when they started out!!!! the sleeve is a high quality sleeve & there is a printed innersleeve BUT only pertaining info on the inner is to repertoire records, nothing on ufo.............

I have a copy of this still in tight split shrink. I think I played it once before in the 90's. Just pulled it out while going through LP's to sell. Yes, this thing sounds like mud. Overdriven bass to total distortion. I think they were trying to do Blue Cheer here. Seriously. It's not up to later classic 70's releases. The vinyl this is on is also the flimsy bendable shit. I have the Love Sculpture and Pretty Things on Rare Earth and neither as as bad as this vinyl. I think the combo platter of a completely jacked production and the crappy vinyl might put this in the sell section.referencing UFO 1 (LP, Album, Reissue) AKA 3
Is this a needledrop? It sure sounds like it. In between songs on my copy it’s silent, and when the songs start there’s definitely background noise.referencing UFO 1 (LP, Album, RCA Hollywood Press ) RS524
Incredibly thin flimsy vinyl. Must be 100grams at best. Good sound quality though.referencing UFO 1 (LP, Album) BEAS 12
Whatever nonsense you may read here, the white label front laminated pressing is the FIRST pressing. The orange/red label is a later 2nd press from around 1972. A check through any picture discography will show red/orange labels only started being used by Beacon in 1972. It has also been confirmed by a friend of mine who bought this when it came out, and is accepted by pretty much everyone except mcprog11 - check popsike.
