Midnight Oil – Red Sails In The Sunset

I love this album since the mid 80‘s. the pressing is very good and silent and it sounds amazing.

I love this album and I love their sound. This is another great group from down under. The pressing is also really good as it is clear and punchy, like most from Columbia.

Great album. Is there any issue that contains the lyrics to "Bells and Horns in the Back of Beyond"? In my CD booklet that song is missing.

Absolutely superb album - the connoisseur's choice of Oils' albums - rendered here on a flawless vinyl pressing. So much depth and space in the sound. A must-buy.

Arguably the height of the groups 80's releases, I much prefer this era over their more commercialized follow up, Diesel and Dust. Still some solid albums after but nothing that can compare to the biting energy on display here.

Only audible difference I've heard is the final snare hit on "Best Of Both Worlds". Would be interested to figure out if it's a different issue or just a reissue.

Listening to this album again for the first time in probably a decade, it strikes me that "Red Sails..." was certainly a collection of highs and lows. Coming on the heels of the towering "Countdown" must have been a hard act to follow. There are some good, tight rockers on here, like "Best of Both Worlds" (a concert favourite), "Kosciusko", and "Minutes to Midnight". There are also solid standouts like "Jimmy Sharman's Boxers". But there's also some lighter, more experimental stuff for the time, including "Bells and Horns in the Back of Beyond" and "Bakerman". Listening through sides A and B, the album seems a little defocused, as though there were a search on for a theme or a unifying idea that the Oils never quite found. By the time you get to "Shipyards of New Zealand", which has always felt to me like it should have risen to a greater, more powerful climax (it just ends too soon, needed a third act of some kind), you may not know what the hell has just happened, but it was still a pretty good ride.

Great Cd by a Very Underrated Band of great musicians. Signified their Sound with this selection of songs.
