St. Germain’s MEZZOTINTO starts with “My Mama Said,” pretty much a thesis for his musical style. From the blues vocal sample that launches the track to the jazz percussion that rolls in and to the house beat that kicks things into high gear, it feels like a distillation of the St. Germain method. “The Black Man” has a single spoken word intro, but is no less deep and groovy. The thick bassline on “Walk So Lonely” soon gives way to a guitar twang and a soulful sample, while “Organ Talk” slows things down for some mellow hip-hop. The reverb on “Dub Experience” adds a touch of Jamaica to pull focus from the Delta blues, and “Thesime” punches this further.

I would also add there is a brilliant sampling of the royals' "free speech and movement" in dub experience, really great dubby track!

I think that sample in "The Black Man" is taken from "Kim Cummings - Your Attitude (Mental Instrum Remix)" (1993).
