Official Release #2
The gatefold sleeves of "Absolutely Free" vinyl, with the spine to the left, have the front image/title rotated right. When oriented to view correctly - and you turn over - the back is also viewed correctly. On the back, the original art signature of Zappa ("FVZ 12/66") has been removed from the bottom-right corner. Censorship was applied to some issues; On the back cover, above the "Buy America" American flag illustration, the words "War Means Work For All" was either 'ghosted' or removed from Zappa's art. Nor does it appear in later CD images, or on the 2012 reissue.
'Absolutely Free' was recorded at T.T.G. in L.A., during the week before Thanksgiving, Nov 1966. Zappa's comments, within the Libretto, indicate the release of this work was delayed until May 1967 due to the label wishing to apply censorship to the words. Originally intended for inclusion, the Libretto was independently-funded and produced by Zappa as a US mail-order item - including its reproduction in UK's September '67 issue of International Times. Some vinyl is also 'un-banded' [no visible track separation].
On the inner spread Gail Zappa is credited as "My Pumpkin", also relating to the track "Invocation & Ritual Dance Of The Young Pumpkin".

Sounds great clean surface, all analog sound, can't imagine it sounding better, i might pick up the reissue for the bonus material and the lyric sheet, as the previous owner of my copy didn't send in a dollar for one, or he might of lost it I don't know.

I have a copy identical to this, but with the cover reversed; I mean the record comes out to the right of the back of this copy. Is it a later Australian copy or an unofficial one? Thank you!

No complaints on my end. Sounds good, plays nice and flat, recommended for those who don't want to pay for the outrageous prices of an OP

is the backside MONO STAMPED or MONO STICKERED? The photo looks like a sticker.

This pressing is fabulous, clear and not half as thin sounding as the US pressing, my copy is almost completely silent, with no ticks, even when being played quite a few times it has no loss in soundstage, the bass is pronounced more though not overbearing and the drums are more upfront, which leads me to presume less compression has been applied when mastering the tapes... the details are outstanding, get it if you can, it outshines every edition in my opinion, also the last remaster of 2018, which though digital, is excellent!

First , I have to admit I was pissed off, when I tore off the shrink wrap with a hype sticker sayin « ...plus the complete Libretto « to see NO Libretto inside the LP .... I’m getting used to be deceived by brand new vinyl records.... for many reasons, including scratches, noise , bad sound , missing record (in a 3 record box set , having 2 disc # 1 and 1 disc #3 ) and now missing insert ... (Mr. Bungle , Butthole Surfers , Björk, Supertramp ,Big Boys ,Nick Cave ,Tom Waits , Tool , Metallica...) BUT...This pressing of Absolutely Free is Totally Top Notch !!! Amazing Mastering and High Quality pressing ! Get it ! ( just hope you’ll have your insert with it !!!) Also , side 4 etching has a clear white label ...And the image is Far from the pic advertisied on zappa.com ... this sucks... but the sound is terrific!

SAY NO TO DRUGS KIDS, especially if you are preparing a vinyl reissue such as this, otherwise you could get things totally wrong.

The libretto pages are in the wrong order. A white label in the middle of the laser etching obscures Zappa's face! Where was quality control?
