- Wonderful music, ambient classical pop! Perfect melodies without groove. Some spoken word. If you like late Marianne Faithfuls "She walks in beauty", buy this! 6 stars.
Pressing is: good sound, but unluckily my version has some small cracks and hisses. - Edited 10 days ago

This album seemingly came from nowhere and disappeared just as mysteriously. referencing The Night (CD, Album) HVNLP233CD
The CD is now available again and my copy arrived today. It’s quiet, subdued, almost ambient and absolutely beautiful, I love it.- Absolute class. I guess I was an early Saint Etienne adopter back in the late eighties, buying everything they did, up to and including 'Tiger Bay'.
I didn't buy anything else until 'I've Been Trying to Tell You', but the last two or three albums have really resonated with me.
'The Night' is quite possibly one of my favourite LPs of 2024.
I could quite happily stick side 1 on repeat.
My coke bottle green pressing is clean and quiet.
Thank you for your music. - I’m lucky to have a very quiet and nice sounding pressing. Hit or miss I guess. The music I haven’t really gotten into yet. Was hoping for a more pop oriented album like their output in the 90s/early 2000s. This is more in the alley of their last release, albeit more moody and gloomy if i may say?
- Splatter vinyl looks gorgeous, but my pressing is a dud. Way too many pops and clicks on the copy that I received. Optimal is a hit or miss pressing plant--sometimes superb (as the other reviews indicate), sometimes quite poor.
Glad others are enjoying the music as well. I find it to be "good" rather than great Saint Etienne. I enjoyed this release more than the previous LP ("I've Been Trying to Tell You), but not by much. It seems rather "slight" in the context of their many previous pop masterpieces.
Or maybe the crap quality on the pressing is clouding my judgement... :) YMMV
- Gorgeous album - sounds a bit like the ambient parts of Sound of Water, mixed with the cut-up vocals and soundscapes of I've Been Trying to Tell You, but much gentler than that album and with richer, clearer and more layered vocals - the classic Sarah sound. It's different, but I love it. Pressing is great too - really quiet background which is a relief for an album like this - and the sleeve is beautiful, with a glossy inner and some really atmospheric photography.
- Anyone else think the signed postcard is crap. Why not do a full size art print of the album cover and sign with a decent pen instead of some silly little card with scratchy little signatures. Naff and disappointing.

Saint Etienne specialising in limited editions no one could get, even the same day.
They also have a site,w here you send messages, and no one will reply.
So I decided to give up on St Etienne to be honest, they can keep their limited editions, since they don't want to sell them to people who would have loved to them.
And after people will say the cd business is going down... Sure, if you can't buy what you want, it is obvious. referencing The Night (LP, Album, Limited Edition) HVNLP233
This was limited to 300 copies. Confirmed by Bob on Bluesky.
