Reviews
- Although I usually prefer Lateef’s recordings in mono, the orchestral setting of Centaur/Phoenix actually benefits from a stereo mix. The soundstage is gigantic and makes for a very satisfying listening experience. In any case, it’s another incredible Lateef session in a non-stop cavalcade of great sessions from @ 1957 forward.

Great album but lots of crackle on this pressing :(- Audio quality from this era of "Stereo _[####]_ Riverside" is consistently outstanding in my experience. Wonderfuly natural sounding recordings; the consistency of these (those that I own) recordings is constant and through every listen I always wonder "how did they capture that"?.
Artistically one of my favorite album covers.. - One thing that Yusef Lateef wasn't afraid of was switching his band. He has a completely new crew here with some amazing players. The album is a mix of modal and hardbop tunes. I prefer the slower modal tracks myself. He is still playing with a more mainstream sound but morphing it into something new. Very adventurous.
