- Edited 6 years agoThe very first tape by Macronympha containing the earliest rumblings of noise from the classic duo of Rodger Stella and Joseph Roemer!
The first tracks clocks in at almost 25 minutes and heavily focuses on the use of tape loops. This track has a far more rhythmic element than later material. It sounds like a production line of robots grinding and hammering away to construct a larger metal monster. Honestly, it kind of drags on a little longer than necessary and is an incredibly slow start to an otherwise great tape.
After the first monolithic track, the rest of the tape introduces the lo-fi scum noise that Macro have become known for. There is always present, a dense layering of dirt and grim electronics to smother us and make us feel filthy. There are low rumbles, high shrieks, and smashed metal bubbling and percolating like toxic waste. Rhythmic tape loops are still used to an extent on other tracks but usually more sparingly. The group move closer to their 90's classic sound on their second release, Physical Chaos.
Thanks to Rodger Stella for re-issuing this and many other classic Macronympha releases! 90's era Macronympha was truly something special and all of their releases should be enjoyed and celebrated.
