Yardbirds* – Yardbirds

The only UK studio album and the third US album released by the band. "Yardbirds," now semi-officially known as "Roger the Engineer," and released in the US, Germany, Canada, and Italy as "Over, Under, Sideways, Down." It's the only Yardbirds album containing all original material and the only album to feature lead guitarist Jeff Beck on all tracks.

Aside from the apparent differences in the cover design, there are other significant differences between the US and the UK releases, and between the mono and stereo versions of both. Some tracks use alternate mix-downs, and the tracks are ordered differently. In Canada, France, and Germany, the album was released with unique artwork different from the UK and US artwork.

"Over, Under, Sideways, Down" was the only single released from the album, and was highly successful for the group, reaching #10 in their native UK, #13 in the US, #5 in Canada, and #35 in Germany. To promote the album, Epic Records saw fit to use it as the title for the LP, as they had done with the album "For Your Love" in 1965.

The album served to showcase the Yardbirds' foray into psychedelic blues and rock, as well as highlighting their new pop direction after the departure of Eric Clapton. It was one of the first psychedelic albums released in the UK, preceding the Beatles' "Revolver" by about a month.

It has been reissued many times since its release and saw a Super Deluxe release in 2021.
