- Jazz Folks this is a great recording! Out of the Tone Poet series I rarely hear anything about this record. Stellar musicianship, incredibly tight rhythm section, excellent solo performances. Live in the room feel and quality sound. Worth repeated listening.
Nice choice of an album for a Tone Poet. Excellent musicianship and great compositions. I myself had never heard of Booker Little as a leader, and Max Roach is killing it as usual.
As far as the pressing, it is pretty good. It is the most warped Tone Poet I have gotten, but really is not more than a subtle wave. The sound is very clean and sharp, with some 3D soundstage. It does not complete the illusion however, as the bass is very weak overall. The rhythm section is pushed way, way back, which is a big part of the bass issue. Max Roach, pushed to the back? What!? I'm not sure if this was all in the recording, but it seems like the remastering for this release should have adjusted for that if it could.
Overall, quite good for a Tone Poet. Not among their best, but still a worthwhile addition.
Edited 9 months agoJUNO Blue Note TONE POET SERIES 2024 Minor edge warp DNAP, silent, plays well with no issues, Sounds WOW/STUNNING Dynamic with a very wide/deep sound stage. Tremendous deep rich bass yet with subtle clarity on the high end- Fantastic and quality vinyl and customer service!!! I will certainly purchase more from this dealer.
