Iggy Pop – Lust For Life

Listening to this now having watched Mr Osterberg rock his pants off last night - literally. I bought this new in 81 and have a much nicer stereo these days. This still sounds terrific.

A pretty awful sounding pressing . Shrill vocals , muddy sound at the same time . It sounds like it’s a bootleg and one has to question the source and label . Stay well clear. 1/2 star rating of a musically good album .

Love this pressing. It is heaven compared to the 4 Men With Beards pressing I started with.

The few records I have from Dublin Vinyl are top-notch and this is no exception. Seems like a new lacquer was cut for this release. This is a really nice, quiet and dynamic pressing.

To be honest, this pressing isn’t the greatest one, but it is bearable.

Holy moly, what a pressing! It sounds H U G E but with plenty of rich subtleties and detail filling the space underneath. I can't imagine it sounding any better than this.

This would probably sound better on AM radio in a thunderstorm. WTF? Everything I’ve bought from 4MWB I’ve regretted. Save your money - this will end up at the Goodwill.

Bought this album after first listening to it on Spotify, honestly prefer listening to it on Spotify, which is incredibly rare for me once I buy an album on vinyl. It sounds muddy (as others have said), lacks dynamic range, I'd either try find an original pressing or wait for a better pressing.
-edit- I've since replaced this with an 80s pressing, and can confirm that this is indeed just a terrible pressing.

OK, so it's not the original pressing, but this 1981 re-issue is still a remarkable piece of plastic. Considering what most albums sounded like in 1977 (think the emasculated pop of "Brotherhood of Man" or the restrained multi-track pop of Abba's "The Album"), this album comes charging out of the starting blocks with Hunt Sales' drums and Tony Sales' bass establishing an earthy groove on the title track. Throughout, this sounds like a slippery-yet-tight live band playing in your room, with that nice Mr Osterberg emoting over it all. A remarkable achievement, and one that blows away the cobwebs of the "dry" seventies sound. This UK-pressed RCA International version is warm but clear. Baby let's blast off...
