Fleetwood Mac – Future Games

Man I can't say enough good things about this reissue. Sounds incredible, BIG sound stage, great instrument separation, lively, present, clear, no surface noise (and all this on a VERY modest system). The actual vinyl is flat and with the smoothest edges i've ever felt on a record, and the jacket is quality, sturdy cardboard. Oh if only all records were given this treatment....I'm glad this one was, it's a top three FM release for me.

"Future Games" holds the distinction of being the first vinyl record that I bought brand new as opposed to a vintage original pressing from 1971, so within my massive collection, I classify it as an addition, since I have never owned an original vinyl copy of it.

My good friend Tom, who works at Utopia Records in Sydney, Australia, really loves this album as well as its 1972 follow-up "Bare Trees".

The line-up on the album was Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, Christine & John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.

My copy has the following runout matrix numbers: Runout (A-side, etching): A 0 RS-6465 31282-2 AC; Runout (B-side, etching): P RS-6465 31283 RE1 SG. However, the vinyl is in a green sleeve [perhaps exchanged with the correct cover since I purchased used].

Mellow Fleetwood: This Album is odd, It comprehend a lot of guitar dominated songs that can last up to 8 minutes. Melodic and mellow it breaks with the Peter Green era, the mellow pop is also very different to the Lindsey Buckingham produced albums, Although you can recognise Christine McVie voice, this LP is more dominated by Welch/Kirwan influence. However I believe is the most likely to be appreciated by the post Fleetwood Mac Album (1975) followers, it has certainly got more loving by recent audience that its 70s fans, although it seems it sold enough to keep the band going. My copy is original and it has taken me days to clean, it is a pleasure to listen with a lot of ambience and very well produced. A hidden gem.

Future Games finds the band recovering from the unexpected defection of Jeremy Spencer to join the Children of God. The reprieve came with the propitious addition of R&B veteran Bob Welch to the band. The new influence provides a marvelous dimension to the band's evolving sound. Symbolic of their hope for the future is the cover that depicts Mick Fleetwood's sister Sally's kids Kells and Tiffany wading in the Nadder River near Salisbury. The penguin on the back of the jacket represents John McVie, who had developed a bit of a fixation with the creatures at the London Zoo, and is the birth of Fleetwood Mac penguin iconography.

One of the best Fleetwood Mac records. Love the guitar by Kirwan on this and the cuts by Welch. Great sounding vinyl too.

Rich, warm and full of detail. This vinyl pressing is vastly superior to both the murky sounding CD versions I have heard. Recommended!
