Notes
Déjà Vu is the first album by the rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the second by the trio configuration of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. It was released in March of 1970 by Atlantic Records, catalogue SD-7200. It topped the pop album chart for one week and generated three Top 40 singles: "Teach Your Children," "Our House," and "Woodstock."
Déjà Vu was greatly anticipated after the popularity of the first CSN album and the addition of Young to the group. Stills estimates that the album took around 800 hours of studio time to record; this figure may be exaggerated, even though the individual tracks display meticulous attention to detail. The songs, except for "Woodstock", were recorded as individual sessions by each member, with each contributing whatever was needed that could be agreed upon. Young does not appear on all of the tracks, and drummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Greg Reeves are credited on the cover with their names in slightly smaller typeface. Jerry Garcia plays pedal steel on "Teach Your Children" and John Sebastian plays mouth-harp on the title track.
Four singles were released from the album with all but the last (Carry On) charting on the Hot 100.
The popularity of the album contributed to the success of the four albums released by each of the members in the wake of Déjà Vu: Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Stephen Stills' self-titled solo debut: Stephen Stills, David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, and Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 148 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.] The same year, the TV network VH1 named Déjà Vu the 61st greatest album of all time. The album ranked at #14 for the Top 100 Albums of 1970 and #217 overall by Rate Your Music.
The album was reissued for compact disc after being remastered from the original tapes at Oceanview Digital Mastering by Joe Gastwirt on September 6, 1994. In 1997, guitarist Fareed Haque covered the entire album in jazz form for the Blue Note Cover Series.

Got a Scandinavian version with NCB on labels. Held in German sleeve. Not yet listed on discogs.- FINALLY!!
5TH TIME.LUCKY!!
After the debacle of my first four copies tried and detailed below ive waited a while and tried another copy and after nigh on 2 years ive landed on a 5th and very acceptable copy of this one. Im glad i persisted as the CB mastering is fantastic. This time its totally flat, is almost dead on centre and has no audible non fills. It SHINES!!
To take two years and 4 rejects/returns to get here is far from ideal but good things come to those who persist and wait 😊
Now, roll on the 45rpm AP issue which should sound otherwordly and do so 1st time around to boot 😁 - I love this record but agreeing with another reviewer it is incredibly bright. Im seeking an OG Piros to compare to.

This pressing really benefits from an all-analog chain. My VG+ copy vastly improved when sourced to a tube pre-amp then driven to a tube amp. Warm and full, finally!referencing Déjà Vu (LP, Album, Gatefold) 50 001
I have this disc but the sleeve is not USA made instead it is an E. J. Day made sleeve in the UK. The sleeve is also the faux-leather style. Labels on the record are both the plum Atlantic 'made in Holland' with the matrix numbers listed here. Is this another variant?- I used to have an OG pressing that my dad bought the day it was released in the US, and for many years that was the only pressing I had any familiarity with. Alas, that copy was lost in a fire. So it's been a long time since I've listened to the album at all. This version is very good. Quiet, flat, dynamic, and rich. The only thing is that I definitely noticed some instrumentation way at the front that I was used to being buried, but I would say it's just different, not better or worse. I'll still be looking out for a good deal on the OG press, but this one is a good buy at under 30 bucks.
- Edited 5 months agoI have a question for the person who posted this entry. Are you sure this is a 1977 pressing?
Yes, catalogue number wise, this is when older Atlantic albums that were being reissued started using the longer catalogue numbers, but this pressing specifically?
The only reason I'm asking is because the company inner sleeve shown here (which is also the one I have in my copy) is what Atlantic and its' associated labels were using in the mid to late 80's. The one from the late 70's-early 80's looks like the one shown here: https://www.discogs.com/release/8372471-Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young-D%C3%A9j%C3%A0-Vu
My guess is, this pressing is from the late 80's. And I'm not just judging that by the inner sleeve, but by the way the record itself looks and feels, it's more in line with a late 80's pressing.
Regardless, this is a great sounding pressing. Much cleaner than my 1970 original, with clearer highs, cleaner midrange and nice lows. If you can find this pressing in good shape, grab it!
