referencing Mouthfuls (LP, Album, Reissue) JB-109
Is it me or are there some different versions on this Jealous Butcher release (vs. original subpop)?- I'm not sure if it's the quirkiness of Eric Johnson's lyrics, or maybe "pop folk" is just too quirky itself nowadays, but this band seems to have slipped back out of whatever sideshow spotlight they might have all too briefly occupied. They're kind of a hidden gem, and this particular album and pressing is a fantastic example of just how good they can sound on wax. The recording and production is meticulous, dynamic and very clean, taking full advantage of the wonders of stereo sound.
Oh, and one more thing--this yellow pressing proves just how good and quiet colored vinyl CAN sound when it's done right!
