Ramones peaked at number 111 on Billboard and though commercially unsuccessful, it received positive reviews from critics. My copy has the same matrix numbers (with crossed out "2") STERLING * SR 6020 LW - but the label rim text does not have an address. Only one pressing ring.

Still got copies for sale over there on rhino... I think this is the go-to pressing going forward for this LP. Even though it required a cleaning out of the sleeve, and I don't know if it's the red vinyl, but this, and the trout mask replica black vinyl repress are the only two third-man pressings I own without major sonic difficulties, noise, non fill etc. Much better dynamics then the mono CD that came in the Box set. Grab one for yourself and one to hand down to the grandkids.

Flat clean heavyweight vinyl, comes with printed inners like the original... much heavier vinyl than the original US Sire, the cardstock on this is a bit matte, seems like the early '70s pressings more glossy... sounds like they've narrowed the hard pan original stereo a bit on this, and boosted the bass, not an enormously revisionist remaster but noticible, use your balance control on an earlier pressing and this one and you'll see what I mean ... The red vinyl mono is probably the way to go on this now, anyway... and there are plenty of vinyl copies dating from the original pressing up until this remastering in 2016 that contain the original stereo if you're concerned about that. Much better than the 2016 remaster CD in terms of dynamics. Grab this and the red vinyl mono you should be satisfied, and if you want to be a completist grab a 70s 80s 90s etc vinyl copy... Spend endless rainy afternoons comparing the three °○°... don't think there's anything wrong with having multiple copies of the Ramones first album LOL... signed, the guy who apparently owns three copies of BÖC's Tyranny and Mutation...

There is something more absolute than any other absolute, and it's the fact that the mono mixes of Ramones' first album are superior and should have been used from the get go.

The strict stereo separation of the original mix sounds terrible on the radio. It sounds terrible in your bedroom. It sounds terrible on a PA. They shot themselves in the foot.

Maybe the only equal fuck up in 70s rock history is David Bowie's abysmal mix of Raw Power by the Stooges. Thank thee gods Iggy eventually rectified that.

And thank thee gods for the Ramones mono mixes...better late than never. Of course, there are [deaf and deranged] people who think Bowie's mix is just fine. Don't trust those people as far as you can throw them.

The only reason to listen to the stereo versions is nostalgia. If you had only ever heard the mono version, there is no way you would think, "Yeah, that sounds great. But what about a stereo mix with hard panning, strict separation of the instruments?" Not a chance.

There's a reason they finally released a mono mix. It's better.

Sold my original years ago but I remember a pretty compressed mix. Not an issue with this release. Only problem is some vocal distortion on Basement. Last song on side A but sounds like a mastering defect. Hits out of the blue and repeats. Must be unique to my pressing because someone else would have noticed this over all these years.

In a world of pointless reissues (I'm looking your way Sire) this one is different. Having been originally issued with a hard panning of guitar and bass (on purpose) it's cool to hear everything front and center. Johnny's guitar is much more impactful in mono, well, everything thing is more impactful here. Might've been cut a little hot but I still like it a lot. And the red color is fun as well as the 7" (7" would've been more special with a company sleeve...). I will definitely listen to this version often. If the day comes they do a "modern" stereo mix of this I'll buy that too. A record of this importance deserves all three mixes, imho.

*it's important to listen to this with a proper mono signal. Easily achieved with two rca "y" cables.

Great version here. More emphasis in the bass and kick than the digital version. Guitars are lower in the mix but still very aggressive. Vinyl from Rhino is flat, no debris, and plays perfectly. A+

A bit harsh in the treble, loud bass, but a lot of inner groove distortion
