Notes
New Order's debut album, often referred to as being the "difficult one". Released in the UK on 19 November 1981 and produced by Martin Hannett at Strawberry Studios, Stockport.
The artwork, done by Peter Saville (2), is based on a poster by Italian Futurist Fortunato Depero for the 1932 exposition "Futurismo Trentino". Saville adapted it so that the F stands for Factory and the L (Roman numeral) for 50. The album colour in the UK was blue with blue artwork, while in the US it was white with burgundy artwork.
The album peaked at # 30 in the UK album charts.
Peter Hook sings on "Dreams Never End" and "Doubts Even Here", and Gillian Gilbert provides the voiceover on the latter.

This 2009 version (I mean the original album) is possibly the best sounding of all on CD, compressed just enough without overwhelming, the bass here feels more present without filling the mix. Frank Arkwright is the guarantee here ;) Unless you like the romanticism of vinyl, don't spend a fortune on any version of this digital era, on vinyl. - Of course it is a wonderful album, but such a shame that the insert is so cheap. One page insert of the artwork, with a blank page on the inside.
- Unmistakeable New Order and still relevant. I can imagine this spinning on repeat on many platters back in ‘81, for today just sit back and immerse yourself in the darkness of times that once were.

Does anyone have a factory original inner sleeve they would like to sell?- Don't feed the greedy scalpers! This is still available brand new from the usual on-line stores (the 'River' etc) for £90 along with excellent return policies.

Absolutely phenomenal pressing. Dynamic, clean, and clear. It sounds like you’re inside of the album when it’s on.referencing Movement (LP, Album, Reissue, Repress) FACT 50
There are certain records I own that I go to often because the pressing quality is just so damn good. This is one of them.- Direct comparison with 2016 Germany vinyl, and original Factory and Qwest CDs (identical CDs) :
This cut is smoother - less edgy - and fuller than the other versions. I haven’t heard any of the other original UK pressings for comparison. Very happy with this one, though. referencing Movement (LP, Album, Reissue, Repress) FACT 50
Direct comparison with original MPO / Town House cut https://www.discogs.com/release/4530114-New-Order-Movement :
This 2016 cut has significantly more upper-mid to high frequency content, adding some edge and harshness (or perhaps extra clarity, depending on your system). The low end is slightly less deep, and the transients slightly more compressed.
