Patti Smith – Horses

It’s a magical album. You can hear lots of subtle details from instruments in the vinyl. Lots of echo/reverb. Awesome record for the time it was made. From a 2022 standpoint, I do hear distortion in the vocals when each song climaxes and things get loud…. But I don’t mind it’s part of the experience

Same as (almost) everyone else. Sibilant and crackly. Rather disappointing.

Late to the party but this press sounds awful. I just cannot even listen to this one.

I have a copy of this and it was SO much surface noise. I can't enjoy the album

I did buy it used but it is in VG+ condition. Just a few very fine scratches but it has continuous noise throughout. I cleaned it with my brush and solution so either it's incredibly dirty deep in the grooves or I got a bad press

Is this numbered? Anyone else got a signed copy at the Horses 40th anniversary tour?

I bought this pressing because of the out-of-control sibilants on the 2012 Legacy pressing. The sibilants on this one are much better controlled, but does go precariously close to over-modulation and distortion on occasions. As always this is highly cartridge dependant. Some MC-cartridges with some types of line-contact type styli are more susceptible to this than others. The recording itself is a shitty as it has always been, but at least this one is playable and maybe even enjoyable depending on your cartridge.

The lacquer this record is pressed from is shit. Sibilants are totally out of control. The pressing quality is the usual shit Rainbo/United produces. Noisy vinyl and pops & crackles galore.

Bought this (the Album Day white vinyl) for half price in a Black Friday sale. Bargain for a classic album, but not so much for the quality of the pressing. Had to return the first one as in had a very audible click all the way through the first track on side A. The click wasn't there on my replacement vinyl, so just a manufacturing defect I guess. However even after a really good clean and vacuum, my pressing is rather noisy - some low level crackle that won't be shifted and background noise reminiscent of a picture disc. The music itself sounds fine though.
