This is probably the worst CD single released by New Order. Why? It's not the song. I love Ruined in a Day. All 5 mixes on this CD2 are the exact same. There are some very subtle differences, very subtle. When I bought it years ago, I thought it must be an error and thought it would be pulled and released with actual remixes. The only thing that could have made it worse would have been if they included an instrumental by Sly & Robbie too.

One of the rarest New Order tracks exclusively on this cassingle (!) - the original mix of „Vicious Circle“, a great little homage to the Acid House pioneers Marshall
Jefferson et al, with even some Hooky basslines thrown over.

K Klass Reunited Remix is the one. Brilliant bit of remixing. . . .

I loaded the three mixes to audacity, synchronised them and flipped between each to get to the bottom of this, because it's been bothering me for years. The changes are very slight.

The Sly & Robbie Radio Edit and 12" Bogle mix really do sound identical, the volume of the vocals may differ slightly. I genuinely wonder if one of these two was supposed to be an extended 12" edit, or a shorter edit of the same mix, but somehow they put the same mix on twice.

Ruined In A Day (Rhythm Twins Dub) is slightly different. It does not have the additional rhythm guitar and piano effects. It still has Barney's vocal and the toasting, so it's misleading to call it a dub.

Music taste aside the vinyl is well pressed and production is quite good. Now you must understand this side A is a period piece and experimental and I applaud New Order. This was right at the time dancehall had exploded and Sly & Robbie had a huge hit with Chaka Demus & Pliers. I dig it. There is nothing like this and you kick back and have it as loungy music.

Say people, is there any distinctive difference between tracks 1, 2 and 4?
Is it me or do they just sound like one and the same?

                  Ruined in a remix.

I usually love the possibilities of the 12" remix. The exception is Ruined in a Day. A perfect song, at 4:22, it would have been nice to have an extended version, retaining the emotional strength of the song and offering some escapist instrumentals to let your mind wander a bit with the song.

But it never happened. The remixes ruin the songs purity. A boogie mix – ummmm . . . very funny.

Love the mixes on this one! Odd that the only way to get the single is from a DJ or Promo copy.

While the promotional material (documented with the images) clearly lists the release date as June 21, I would be remiss to not mention that I actually purchased my own 12" copy on April 26.
