Sound sucks. The remaster sounds way better!!! This is just a reissue copied from previous versions, that’s why it sounds not great. I recommend you the new reissue on DGM.- I bought a second hand copy. It looks like it has never been played before. But... The pops I hear when I start playing the record are very annoying. Even though I cleaned the vinyl, there is no change. Waste of money.

Very good German pressing, might not the best around but I'd recommend it...- I had two older Canadian Pressing (gatefold and non gatefold). I have sold them a while ago so don’t have the exact pressing detail but they both sounded very treble heavy (almost shrill sounding). I was convinced my best option would be the Steven Wilson remix.
Then I came across this in a used bin. Very dynamic and the harshness has been tamed masterfully without making the music sound dull. I wonder if this was full analog cut? referencing In The Court Of The Crimson King (An Observation By King Crimson) (LP, Album, Gatefold) 1C 062-91 093
Who did the mastering and cut the lacquer for this LP?referencing In The Court Of The Crimson King (An Observation By King Crimson) (LP, Album, Stereo) ILPS 9111
Great sounding, though near impossible to get a true near mint without some surface noise due to so many quiet moments.
Side note: does anyone else have the A3 / B4 matrix? I’ve heard a very few were pressed, and couldn’t find the exact same variation listed.- Edited 4 days agoI'm not that crazy on it. It certainly sounds modern. I guess that's the point, but there's nothing particularly outdated or wrong about the original mix at all, it just has a slightly vintage sound to it that I think suits the music better. I also can't help but feel that the original's sound is so integral to the experience and character of the album, moreso than probably any other I've heard, that any effort to alter it is probably a misgiving. It's more immediate and powerful, so the recent repress of the original mix is still definitely my go-to, but all in all this isn't bad. For me though, if you're going to remix an album that already sounds good, you might as well be radical about it, but this purposefully plays it pretty safe and so even as an alternate listen kind of falls flat as it doesn't give me much to listen out for that isn't already in plain sight in the original mix. Maybe the 40th anniversary remix is the way to go for a more distinctly different mix, but I'm happy with what I've got.
The bonus material is the main draw for me. This stuff is fairly interesting, but compared to the later Larks' and Red reissues with their elemental mixes, I find this material a bit novel and don't see myself returning to it often at all.
As an aside, nothing about this packaging tells me what on earth is on the second disc. The disc itself defers to liner notes for more info, but there are no liner notes. I bought this still sealed. Even the track listing here is pretty vague. The cover itself looks great though with a higher contrast compared to the reissue of the original mix. referencing In The Court Of The Crimson King (An Observation By King Crimson) (LP, Album, Stereo, Gatefold) SD 8245
My copy sounds much better than I expected as I've heard nothing but complaints about basically every pressing except the 1st UK. Fantastic seperation between instruments, very pronounced highs and wonderful bottom-end. I'd recommend this copy to anyone.- This recording is indeed a bit lacking in the low frequencies, but I still don't consider it a bad edition. Silent vinyl, good detail and separation of instruments (listen to I Talk to the Wind). However, if you are looking for a more complete frequency spectrum, you should listen to the 1999 remaster or, better, the 50th Anniversary Remix which sounds divine, perhaps the best copy on the market, which you can still find at a fair price.
