New Order's fifteenth single, released on 07 December 1987 as 7", 12" and CD-Single.
Originally written for the movie soundtrack Salvation!, the single versions are much more refined and the title track was remixed by Arthur Baker.
The music video was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and contains footage of the band hilariously dressed up as a hairy heavy-metal act. Also featured are actors Bill Paxton and Rae Dawn Chong.
Peaked at # 20 of the UK singles charts.
The title is a reference to Diego Maradona's hand goal for Argentina against England in the 1986 World Cup.
The release was accompanied in the UK by various promotional items, e.g. 30 Adidas Azteca Maya footballs with "New Touched By The Hand Of God Order" on them, t-shirts in black or white with "New Touched By The Hand Of God Order" on them.

Has anyone come across a Jukebox 7" version of this ?
as with all the other 12" reissues, great pressing quality and great sound! I always thought this song was a hidden gem in NOs discography similar to shellshock.

Sounds excellent cranked on my system. Super rich, deep sound- so many layers but there's such a high level of clarity and separation that there's no muddiness and nothing is lost in the mix. The monitors I used are rather boomy, and they were still able to deliver such a delicate and precise level of crispness. Even Bernard's quieter vocals are easy to make out and aren't drowned out at high volumes. However, There seems to be some sibilance? more so toward the middle/end of the track, but I'm not sure if it's my system or the recording itself. It's very mild and doesn't impact my enjoyment a single bit. I'm sure this will sound even better through headphones or on my more sensitive system. I'm very pleased with my copy of this release, and the alternate metallic silver Factory Benelux labels are handsome (even though the UK Peter Saville labels are iconic in their own right). I wonder how this pressing compares to its UK counterpart?- I have had to flag the notes up top for misuse of the word 'hilariously'.

Really full dynamic press, great beefy sound with plenty of brightness at the high-end, a hint of sibilance on the vox that I can live with.- New order band name in the video for touched? :The Killers.Brandon flowers inspiration
Comes with round sticker NEW TOUCHED BY THE HAND GOD ORDER- Less than a year on from writing one of synthpop's greatest "head-over-heels" love songs, New Order came up with one of its greatest break-up songs. Originally recorded for the movie soundtrack "Salvation!" (the film being produced by Michael Shamberg, the man responsible for many of New Order's distinctive promo clips), "Touched By The Hand Of God" was made more dancefloor-friendly for single release and the result was another classic 12", this one with a bit of a disco feel to it, but unmistakeably New Order. I've never seen the full-length version compiled anywhere, but would definitely rate it a "must-have" item for NO fans, well worth putting in the effort to seek out the original single.
