Their tenth studio album (not counting the four solo LP's) featured a return to a loud solid metal style, it also includes one of the heaviest drum sounds ever captured in the studio up to this point. By 1982, Ace Frehley had quit the band. His appearance on this album’s cover was purely to reassure fans. Vinnie Vincent co-wrote three tracks and performed on a total of five. When the album was reissued in 1985 an 'unmasked' front cover pic showing Bruce Kulick was used, and featured a different track sequence (Killer and Saint And Sinner being switched).
The band has later admitted that other musicians also performed uncredited on this album:
Robben Ford – lead guitar on "Rock and Roll Hell" and "I Still Love You"
Steve Farris (2) – lead guitar on "Creatures of the Night"
Adam Mitchell - rhythm guitar and outro lick on "Creatures of the Night"
Jimmy Haslip – bass guitar on "Danger"

AVOID!!!!?!? UNLESS, the Blu-ray is of ZERO interest to you. Need more KISS ephemera? Here you go! Need all this content on CD for whatever vintage vehicle you’re still driving? Get you some!!
The Dolby mixes alone are pure $hit. Not even talking about the hilariously absurd volume destruction but the separation is almost non- existent. But hey, the Destroyer Blu-ray is equally $hit so at least the Avatars are consistent.
Can anyone who has this confirm or deny if they fixed the sound issue with the Blu-Ray?- Edited 3 months ago

The mastering on this sucks very muffled and digital with boomy low end no dynamics and brickwalled. I will be selling or trading this off and will try to find a og usa 1st 1 day. This is just 1 of those half speed Abbey road miles showell cuts that did not work.

Horrible sound quality in this 2022 remaster. To be avoided. Drums sound like they are constipated and bass is boomy. I have not heard other versions to compare. I´d prefer authentic sound rather than trying to make it "modern". DR7- The pictures of the labels don't match the tracklisting above. I have this same copy and "Saint And Sinner" is on Side 2 while "Killer" is on Side 1 following A1 "Creatures Of The Night". This appears to be an '85 repress with the original cover. My copy was purchased new/sealed in '88 at a mall record store. I remember being shocked to find a sealed copy with the original cover. Matrix info with this listing match my copy.
Edited 9 months agoWell I wish I'd read skoolbus' review before I purchased this box set. The audio levels on the Blu-ray are appalling! I'll be very interested to see if the forthcoming vinyl super deluxe box set which includes said Blu-ray has addressed this issue. It really is exactly as skoolbus writes, "you have to turn your system's volume up absurdly high to get a normal level out of it...". This review refers to the 5.1 and Dolby Atmos programs, the stereo PCM sounds good and is at an acceptable level. It's a big shame that the Blu-ray is poorly mastered as the cd's and other included content are great. Very poor form from Kiss, the self proclaimed "loudest band in the world" and UMe. Repress now please!

To me, this just sounds completely dead, lifeless. Kiss knew how to make records that sounded good, back in the days. This is so disappointing, it might have just come off someone's phone
