500 were pressed by Polydor Ireland
...using the same plates.& cataloge number on label as the UK Version

Probably less than half were sold

100 copies would have been used, as promo editions, for radio and record store people, as well as record label people

There was a policy of destroying, return copies

I liked the banshees a lot but when I went to see them in 1978 on their first tour Siouxsie came on stage glared at the audience and said "you've only come to see us because you heard us on the radio" well no TV appearances, No internet back then, no MTV yet, no album and the single had only just been released, she was right I heard JP play their session a year earlier and waited for them to tour, I never did understand her comment and still don't today "we come from the capital and we are what's happening and you live in the provinces and are backward and stupid compared to us" is how most people in the 3000 seat venue seemed to perceive it, listening to the reaction in the bar after the gig everyone was of the opinion "who does she think she is saying that". . I'm not convinced her comment was a derogatory comment but it was perceived as one by most people there that night, but the music was and still is great, I wonder if she remembers saying that, Newcastle city hall (every band wanted that venue on the tour for some reason) Quote > Harvey Goldsmith <
back then the NME became the go-to news outlet for Punk, New wave and reggae after it threw off its hippy heritage, sacked some of the old guard reporters and new staff started reporting at gigs, homemade fanzines (sniffin glue etc) sold at gigs were also another news feed about the new music sweeping across the UK, great times never to be repeated,

This is a beautifully produced edition of one of Siouxsie's finest songs. Fantastic, nothing-like-it song.

I wish they would do this with the other Banshees 'greats' (Happy House!, Christine, Israel, Spellbound and Slowdive).

Anyone know how to distinguish between the promo and regular editions?

Very rare Beige label. Only two have surfaced on eBay over the last 15 years. Selling for £100+
Considered as the very 1st! pressing before the silver labels.. due to the early “Copyright Control” text on the Beige injected label. Low hundreds pressed.

Actual release date was 18 August 1978. I know coz my mate Dave got me a copy from Small Wonder Records a day before release and then stupidly date stamped it for me. Cheers mate!

this is and was the very first release by siouxsie to come out in japan in 1978 a few weeks before her debut lp in 1978 w/ the banshees, nice japan vinyl and unique to japan only picure sleeve, this certainly does not pop up often, also hong kong garden was my favorite single by this band of all time......lyrics are printed in english and japanese on the rear of the sleeve
