This is not one of the best sounding 80s records I have. Disappointing since it’s a U.S. OG I bought on release. It’s detailed and silent, but thin sounding. Not a lot of soundstage. I’m going to speculate that the 1983 digital mastering is to blame for the lack of depth. Anyone know if the recording is digital, or just the mastering?

An unbelievable debut album. The audacity, the experimentation, and the creativity. It's truly remarkable for a first record. The whole album is a "highlight," but I'd like to draw special attention to "Start of the Breakdown," a stunning and dynamic sonic journey with serious emotional depth. Cheers!

transparent, dynamic, punchy and dead silent during quiet passages. this press really is quite stunning. i highly recommend forking over the extra cash for a nm copy if one can afford it. its just that good.

I have the 2020 version. When I was adding the first cd to I-tunes, track number 3 "Pale Shelter" says 2nd single version but I don't see this anywhere. Does anyone have info about this?

A bit dusty when coming out of the sleeve. Perfectly flat, centered and after a cleaning very good sound. Probably sourced from the 2013 master since the known glitch on "Ideas As Opiates" is present here. Recent editions come without a download code. (Auto rip gave me access to the deluxe edition, though).
