Father John Misty – Fear Fun

The pressing sounds thin with a lot of sibilance when compared to Spotify. Which is a real shame, I was looking forward to enjoying this album on vinyl.

Came also with a kind of huge black sticker on wrapper with artist and album tilte and a smaller black sticker sayin "includes cd Bella Union".

Just picked this up and on first listen there is some terrible sibilance (the distortion when Sss / S-like sounds are sung/made) on Misty's Nightmare 1 & 2 as well as Only Son Of A Ladies Man (minimal - almost unnoticeable), This Is Sally Hatchet (slight) and Well You Can Do It Without Me (terrible), Now I'm Learning To Love The War (moderate), Tee Pees 1-12 (moderate), and Every Man Needs A Companion (moderate). I assume there was some before Misty's one Side 1 and I simply didn't notice it. I will listen again and update if there is. I have reached out to Sub Pop to see if this is the entire run or a problem with only some copies.

Sounds fantastic, had no skipping issues with my copy. Looks gorgeous too. Also, to the person selling this album for $150, you are ridiculous. This album is not worth $150 by any stretch.

Can anyone vouch for how this pressing sounds? Thanks in advance.

CD edition problem: Be aware, I bought a used copy of Fear Fun on CD and it did not work/play in any CD player, the disc looks fine. On a separate internet forum, another person reported that their copy of the CD also did not work/play sometime after purchasing it (I think they had bought it new). I've never had a disc that simply did not play, so it is unusual and it may have been a manufacturing problem.

Anybody selling the disc should test it first to make it plays, and anybody buying should be wary.

EDIT: Also to add, it cannot be read by a computer, either.

What a brilliant album, vinyl color good, packaging and artwork + 2 × posters good, excellent mastering and great music, a truly excellent package

Great buy at the prices it's going for (around $20 usd). Sounds great and the gatefold album jacket works amazing as an art print. Unlike one of the bad reviews, my copy has no sibilance whatsoever. The rough draft of FJM's novel is a nice touch. The music holds up and I think it's a classic of the 2010's for sure.

Just to put it out there, my copy of this pressing is extremely poorly done. Horrible sibilance on the vocal track throughout the album, and both sides of the disc skip for the first 30 seconds or so, ruining Funtimes for me. I might have to buy another copy with how much I like this album and there being no other complaints I can find about this pressing.

Seems there is a 2021 repress that exactly matches the runouts and design here - but it has a strong, clear inner and no download card. I could not find any other differences...when pressed with the same stamper - does this count as another release? I tend to say no, but those fine and subtle differences are known to generate new versions on DC over and over... :)
Sound of the repress is still very good - vinyl like it should be made.
