Notes
Houses of the Holy is the fifth studio album and was released by Atlantic Records on March 26, 1973.
The album benefited from two band members installing studios at home, which allowed them to develop more sophisticated songs and arrangements and expand their musical style. Several songs subsequently became fixtures in the group's live set, including "The Song Remains the Same", "The Rain Song" and "No Quarter". Other material recorded at the sessions, including the title track, was shelved and released on the later albums Physical Graffiti and Coda. All instruments and vocals were provided by the band members Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums). The album was produced by Jimmy Page, and it was mixed by Eddie Kramer.
The cover was the first by the band to be designed by Hipgnosis and was based on a photograph taken at Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.
Although critical response was mixed, Houses of the Holy became a commercial success later receiving a Diamond (over 10-million albums sold)[4] certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1999. In 2020, the album was ranked at number 278 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
The LP cover was staged & photographed at the Irish Giant's Causeway. The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles northeast of the town of Bushmills.

Reviews
- Edited 6 days agoDespite the hype sticker stating the set includes a numbered print, my copy didn't- received a blank, so don't believe the hype (just let me have this one). I know I'm very late to the party on this set (finally gave in a earlier this year because I ended up collecting all the other deluxe box sets over time and convinced myself I needed to complete the collection), but very misleading that they implicate you're getting a set with the LE numbered print.
The packaging is fantastic and the included book is a great keepsake for superfans. HOTH is a nice, clean, crisp pressing; the companion LP, however, had noticeable surface noise and some crackles and hisses, even after a few cleanings. My copy was also slightly warped, so I exchanged and had the same issue with surface noise on the replacement LP. Not sure if it was just the retailer's supply, but if I'm dishing out $140 for just 2 LPS + a book (given that the CDs are cheap and widely available), I need a really clean pressing. Disappointed because this set was otherwise really well done - still recommend getting if you're a superfan or don't already own a copy, just make sure to double check that companion audio. - Finally got my hands on this George Piros mastered press, and it really is a thing of beauty! There is something vibrant about this cut, it floats and bangs all at the same time - like all Zeppelin should. This one is a keeper for me, and sheer joy to play loud.
Great-sounding cut by George Piros that combines both the thunderous attack of Bonzo & Jonesy with the delicacy of Page & Percy. Absolutely awesome mastering job & the LP itself is beautifully pressed as well, with whisper-quiet vinyl...
I just picked up a super clean copy. I wasn't sure at the store what particular copy I had until I got home and researched it on here. An added bonus that this particular copy was pressed in the US state of Georgia, where I live. It's the best sounding copy I have of this record. It's a little thin with the output but it's mixed well. Vocals really cut through. The bass is a little thin but it's as good as it gets for this particular album.- Edited 29 days agoWould have been a great pressing except for the issue with No Quarter. This is so strange. I’ve never seen this issue on any other record before this pressing. There is also an issue on the ocean. Right channel not playing properly. But that was never a finely recorded song so not that big of a deal. Wish I had check the reviews first

I have a white vinyl version of this released at the same time as this.I got it from a Spanish seller and i have a feeling it was manufactured in Spain also.Packaging is top notch and identical to the yellow vinyl edition pictured.. same stickers etc..really nice quality pressing and the punchy MONO sound really suits this lp.No Quarter sounds even better in
mono to my ears.Bought it out of curiosity and find i listen to it more than the official Atlantic Spanish press i also own.
