I had the MOV version (yellow vinyl) and wasn't quite happy with it. This press is MUCH better. Less compression, better dynamics and soundstage than the MOV press. Yes, it is still bright and in your face which is the way the album was mastered, but it has better detail, emotion and not hard on the ears. It's like you're really listening to a first gen master.

Good pressing for background music. If you wanna light it up on the sound system, you'll tear your speakers to shreds.

Let's be perfectly honest - this Vinyl sounds WORSE than the CD. It's blasting out of the speakers with no soundstage, no definition, and lots of noise. A big fail on this one.

It's really absurd how everyone seems to love MOV, it really proves why so many labels end up using CDs and shitty digital files to press vinyl: most people won't hear the difference. Most MOV sources are unacceptable, but the vinyl is well pressed.

Another user has compared the coloured MOV version to the original 1998 pressing, saying "Garbage pressing from Digital Music On Vinyl that sounds flat and tinny compared to the dynamics on the original EU pressing."

In general, unless they say they've used original tapes, avoid MOV.

Good mastering, good dynamics, flat vinyl. Silent pressing in terms of constant surface noise, but there are quite a few jarring pops (in both copies I have tried) as it too often happens with MOV. Some go away with washing, some don't. One of the two copies (which I have returned) even had a piece of center label torn from another copy embedded into the vinyl: inexcusable.

For anyone wondering about the sound stage on this pressing. Courtney Love just wrecked my bedroom.

Bought this upon release back in ’98 and thought it was a huge step down after Live Through This. Very polished and with songs about Hollywood and Malibu.. nah. I liked Reasons To Be Beautiful and the different version of Dying from the Celebrity Skin single, but that was about it. But then I gave it another try about 10 years later and it just clicked with me. Now I think this is just as good as Live Through this, albeit very different. The songs co-written with Billy Corgan (the title track, Hit So Hard, Malibu, Dying and Petals) tend to stand out and each one of them could have easily fitted on a Smashing Pumpkins album. Corgan could still churn out killer tunes if he wanted to back then. And of course, Courtney Love once again proved she was (and is) the most underappreciated female singer in rock.

It is not quite great, it sounds good, 4 out of 5, could be a little more sharp and less "alternative sound" but its ok
