- Edited 3 months agoI picked this up last month and just getting ready for a concerted listening after I just ultrasonically cleaned it. Very nice! Mine has some clicks on side one in track #2, "How Long Has...." but maybe playing and another clean will resolve. These are the Cool Cats! I can live with it. I have 6 Craft OJCs which are all well done.
- Thank you for all positive comments. I didn't hesitate a bit and invited The Cats to my place. Now they purr to my great pleasure. Excellent record in perfect condition.
- A really groovy album. A fantastic mix. An unbelievable lacquer cut by KPG. This album is mono, but it’s as 3D as surround sound (honest).
- Man the ride cymbal on Minor Mishap is so hot in the master -- had to turn roll off the highs via EQ. Anyone have an early press for comparison on that front?
- Does anybody know why CRAFT changed the catalog number on this release from New Jazz 8217 to New Jazz CR00614 ?
- When that big full bass tone comes in midway through How Long Has This Been Going On? well that’s just a wonderful late night jazz moment with the lights down low and a cocktail at hand.
Overall a wonderful warm mono sound and this is another Craft OJC that I’m delighted with.
My copy did have one or two light pops on side 1 but I’m sure they will go away with a quick clean. - WELL DONE TO:
OJC
CRAFT
and MR KPG
All i can further say is to give yourselves a great big pat on your backs! - I love the fact that this was recorded in 1957 yet it feels and sounds so fresh today. This is one of my favourite jazz records now. It’s ver accessible for those new to jazz.
- WOW. just. W O. W. This was already one of my fave jazz titles, and this version is SMOKING hot. I agree with the other comments about tone poets and that they should aspire to be like this, love the flip back sleeves etc, much purer package. The sound of this is KILLER
- To me these modern OJC reissues are even better than the Blue Notes. No gatefold, great print quality, absolut quiet and the sound is closer to the OG´s, in my experience they have more power, they are a little hotter, more punch. So they have all that Blue Note has, just a better, hotter, more powerful cut. And I thought I skip these series. Get them, to me the best Jazz reissues you can get today.
