Jimmy McGriff recorded several albums for Milestone in the 1980's, this is easily one of, if not the best, of the bunch. The reason for that isn't so much the material as the musicians, with soul jazz giants Rusty Bryant, David "Fathead" Newman and Bernard Purdie along for the ride. This pressing sounds impressive, recorded direct to digital by Rudy Van Gelder, with a warm, spacious, atmospheric soundstage and good range from top to bottom. My copy plays nice and clean, with no noticeable surface noise.
