Notes
Presence is the seventh studio album, released by Swan Song Records on 31 March 1976.
The cover, inside sleeve and back of the album feature various images of people with a black obelisk-shaped object. Inside the album sleeve the item is referred to simply as "The Object" aka "The Obelisk". It was intended to represent the "force and presence" of Led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page explained: "There was no working title for the album. The record-jacket designer said 'When I think of the group, I always think of power and force. There's a definite presence there.' That was it. He wanted to call it 'Obelisk'. To me, it was more important what was behind the obelisk. The cover is very tongue-in-cheek, to be quite honest. Sort of a joke on [the film] 2001 A Space Odyessy. I think it's quite amusing."
Jimmy Page made the decision to record the album after Robert Plant sustained serious injuries from a car accident on the Greek island of Rhodes on 5 August 1975, which forced the band to cancel a proposed world tour that was due to commence on 23 August.
At this point, Led Zeppelin were arguably at the height of their popularity. When he was taken to a Greek hospital after the accident, Plant recalled: "I was lying there in some pain trying to get cockroaches off the bed and the guy next to me, this drunken soldier, started singing "The Ocean" from Houses of the Holy."
The background used in the cover photograph is of an artificial marina that was installed inside London's Earl's Court Arena for the annual Earl's Court Boat Show that was held in the winter of 1974–75. This was the same venue where the band played a series of concerts a few months after the boat show, in May 1975.
In 1977 Hipgnosis and George Hardie were nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of best album package.

Reviews
- I went for a (relatively) cheap pressing at Amoeba, and I like this one a lot! Haven't cleaned the record yet, but it sounded great to me, on a setup with mostly tube amplification.

Well, color me stupid. Entirely my fault, of course. If I had realized that this released lacked the gatefold and the inner sleeve, I'd of bought something else. I stress again - this is entirely my fault for not reading the notes above. However, stupid sometimes happens.- Edited 3 months ago

The treble on this version is also pretty high, bringing cymbals upfront on a majority of tracks. Vocals have a few moments of sibilance (especially when ''Twenty four hoursss... sssometimessss ssseemsss to ssslip into daysss''), but the bass and guitars are generally very good (way way better than on older CD versions).
No inner sleeve with «the object», just a black generic one and hype sticker on it (placed there by previous owner).
The best tracks Achilles Last Stand and Nobody's Fault But Mine are still fine bangers here, begging to be played very loud (as they benefit from being first tracks of each side).
I've been slowly buying these Zep reissues (I usually wait until they drop into the $20 range on Bezos' website) and I'm yet to be disappointed. Another beautifully pressed and packaged record. You can tell this band actually cares about its legacy in the products they put out for their fans to buy.
Have a copy for sale - also have other Chinese knock off of Japanese mini sleeves with the inserts (no obi's tho) - contact me if interested.
While most of the album sounds great but the distortion in the inner grooves does get pretty noticeable. Still an underrated gem that every Zeppelin fan needs to hear!- Listening to this now. Finally picked it up on clearance because it’s the only Led Zeppelin album missing from my collection. It’s 2025 and this is the 2015 version according to the bar codes. How did this copy last at retail for 10 years?!? To my ears it’s absolutely perfect. Dead silent out of the sleeve. No warping. Deep bass. I highly recommend this release.
Played through a custom Lenco L75 idler wheel TT, Dynavector Cart, McIntosh Amp and B&W speakers.
Edited 5 months agoAm now hearing this pressing again for the first time in 10 years. WOW, this is MASSIVE! Really organic, really punchy, separation is awesome and very very clear. Just a tiny bit on the treble side, but nothing too bad.
Haven’t hear an original, but this is way better than the most recent pressings and galaxies away from streaming and CD.
no wonder Strawberry was considered one of the absolute best plants.
When I bought this in 2014, I was sure it was an EU original, and the sound quality seemed to confirm it… upon checking it today, was a bit disappointed, but now hearing, I’m SO glad with this 🙌🏼
