- Sounds great. Absolutely quiet vinyl, and the instruments are briliantly separated. Calvin Jacksons drums especially are prominent.
The music itself is fantastic. A funky, some times soul-like, R.L. Burnside. A sound he never seemed to have returned to in his later career, but it does show his versatility as an artist.
Black poly-lined inners, and a nice gatefold with lengthy liner notes. Beautiful packaging, and a must have for any Burnside fan. - A fascinating glimpse of RL Burnside and his family band, more than a decade before he was "discovered", thanks to Fat Possum, but also more than a decade after he was first recorded by George Mitchell. Some of these songs remained staples in Burnside's live shows until his death, others are much less frequently heard. This Sutro Park reissue is solid, with one glaring exception: "Bad Luck City" is missing. Really? It's only the best song on the original album. No issues with this pressing, I don't really detect any difference from the High Water double LP my buddy has (which does include "Bad Luck City"). Drums sound a bit flat, but that seems to be inherent to the recording. My copy was purchased new and plays nice and clean, with no noticeable surface noise.

A fantastic sounding album. As close to the man himself as you can get.
