Notes
In Through The Out Door is the eighth and final studio album, released 1979.
Released in an outer sleeve, which was made to look like a plain brown paper bag. Each cover showed an alternate angle of a man in a bar. The scenario has been photographed from 6 different viewpoints within the bar and then 6 different sleeve variations have been created (with the letters A-F at the top of the spine denoting each variation). The inner sleeve features a 'magic' ink in different colours, which appear on the design when gently wetting.

- Finally a great pressing of this album that’s quiet. Note strawberry in the deadwax, sounds awesome.

Excellent sounding pressing. all these JP remasters offer great sound and a little extra detail here and there, after listening to the OGs for the last 50 odd years they sound amazing and as good if not better than the Classic Records reissues. CD issues are interesting for the extra outtakes and live stuff but harsh sounding compared to vinyl.- Edited one month ago

This pressing sounds superb. I really enjoyed listening to Zeppelin's weakest album again.
Mine says 1975 on the outer bag instead of 1979. Inner card is for the 2XLP version! - I ordered a Diament 1986 CD but the seller sent this in error. I have the Marino Remasters and the 2007 Remasters. I must say this sounds very good but again the album itself is a pig. I always put it at the bottom of the list. I don't like the synths and chorus clad guitars. The sound is diffuse and irritating. It's like a Plant solo album! The best thing on it are John Bonham's brilliant drums. In The Evening goes on forever and ever! Stop! South Bound Saurez is like old Zeppelin but the stuttering rhythm get's annoying after a minute. Fool in The Rain, now we're talking! Fantastic half shuffle by Bonzo. (Jeff Porcaro, another brilliant drummer, was influenced by this on Rosanna by Toto). This drum track is so good I'd happily listen to it in isolation all day long! Then the big latin-tinged blow out that lifts the roof and beautifully settles back into the shuffle just in time for Page's MXR Blue Box solo. I swear Bonzo is the best drummer of all time god bless his soul. I really like Hot Dog, it's a breath of fresh air and a fun slice of country rock n roll and rock n roll is all we need. Now here comes the albums overambitious stinker, Carouselambra. It's like a Genesis outtake from the late 70s. Terrible synths, Plant's vocal buried in the mix and super irritating clean guitar arpeggios that repeat too often. The worse part here is the "diddila, diddila, diddila-dat" that sounds like an arcade game tune. This is the worse track Led Zeppelin ever committed to tape.
Is it prog? Is it smog? No it's Fog! It's a marathon of bad taste by a mile or 26 miles. The best part is when it ends. Next All My Love, yeah, I hate the repeated lines in the chorus and for once Plant is up front but the lyrics are pure toffee. Lastly, I'm Gonna Crawl. Well apart from JP Jones toying with his ginormous Yamaha GX-1 synth, (the Bugatti Veryon of keyboards back in 1979) on the intro I like this song and Zeppelin's worse album ends on a high note. There are three outtakes from the 1978 Polar sessions (Polar Studios, Stockholm were owned by Swedish super stars ABBA) Wearing And Tearing, Oozone Baby and Darlene which were released in 1982 on Coda. I wish they were on this album as they are far better than what ended up as the finished release. - Edited one month ago

This album is still the weakest in the Zeppelin catalog. Some filler on this that's hard to bear. Some of the outtakes that appeared on Coda are far better than Carouselambra and In The Evening is super irritating and repetitive like All My Love. Fool In The Rain and Hot Dog are entertaining at least. I'm buying the JP remastered vinyl now as I've the late 80s Germany pressings which are okay but not brilliant. This I will leave until last! Wearing and Tearing, Walter's Walk and Ozone Baby would have made this album real swan song! - Great Sounding Disc, Barry Diament Did A Masterful Job With The First Zeppelin CD Releases Back In The 80's. Grab Them While They Still Available And Affordable.
- It would be good to have the record labels included to help identify copies that no longer have the paper bag.
- Edited 5 months agoIt's been awhile since I've played this one and what a treat it was to hear these tunes again. Initially alot of Zep fans were turned off by this release as it was a bit different from their previous efforts. But time has simmered this one well IMHO. True It's mellower than what we've expected from the Led but it still showcases their extreme talents. I think Plant had some of his finest vocals efforts here and Bonzo is just killing it on drums. I especially like his work on Fool In The Rain. You can hear shades of Robert's future solo works and Honeydripper influences also. I was 17 when my buddy had tickets in hand for the Chicago Stadium show supporting the upcoming tour in December of '79 when Bonham passed. Sadly I never saw them live. Now as for the companion disc something sounded very wrong right off the bat besides having to turn it up a notch. It didn't take me long to realize this second disc was cut in mono. Not my cup of tea and I'm glad the other Zep bonus discs weren't done this way but it is what it is. One can only imagine what future LZ albums would have been like if Bonham hadn't suddenly gone to his stairway to heaven. Hopefully not like the Strange Sensation.
