Notes
L.A. Woman is the sixth and the last studio album of The Doors to feature Jim Morrison before his death in July 1971. The album released on April 19, 1971.
The US and UK releases were initially issued in rounded-corner sleeves with embossed text. The front has a cut-out window with clear acetate, on which the band photo is printed black half-tone. The disc is in a yellow radius-corner liner, which provides background color to the sleeve window image when inserted.
Later sleeves or cover images simply emulate this effect, with no die-cuts and with normal square corners.
Performed by:
John Densmore – Drums (with brushes on "Cars Hiss by My Window"), Tambourine on "Love Her Madly" and "Been Down So Long"
Robby Krieger – Lead Guitar
Ray Manzarek – Piano, Organ; including Hammond Organ on "The Changeling", "Hyacinth House" and "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)"; Vox Continental on "Love Her Madly", and Rhodes piano on "L.A. Woman" and "Riders on the Storm"; Rhythm Guitar on "Been Down So Long"
Jim Morrison – Vocals
Singles released:
Track 1 Changeling Riders On The Storm (B-side, June 1971)
Track 2 Love Her Madly (March 1971)
Track 10 Riders On The Storm (June 1971)

- wow, just wow. My first UHQR. The sound quality is amazing, the stereo image, the instruments, voice. Awesome. I've been listening to it for the 4th time. I can't get enough of the release. Although it's not my preference in music. Won't be the last of these UHQRs, unfortunately the portfolio is small and the selection very limited.
- Edited one day agoThis sounds awesome, full bodied, I can see why some called it mid-range forward. Great soundstage, beautiful clarity. No pressing issues whatsoever and 48 min on two sides, what's there not to like. I do not own the AP45 or DCC, I do have the 09 BG pressing and this one is considerably better.
- Is this a new BG cut, sorry if this has already been discussed but I think I remember Bernie doing this in the past
- The vinyl edition of the Analogue Productions is particularly noisy, however the SACD is way cleaner. Jim’s vocals do not suffer from as much distortion, and there is a very silky sheen to the overall sound. Five stars. ✨
- AP45 and UHQR owner. Loved the UHQR. IMO too good to simplify with which one is "best." Different mastering choices and different experience. I had more fun listening to the UHQR than the AP45, its seemed more satisfying sonically. Both are very good. In no way would I say the UHQR is second fiddle to the AP45. no way. Co-Captains.
- I'm not crazy about this one. I definitely preferred the DCC and AP45. This one is much warmer and has a heavier midrange. The DCC and AP45 sound more balanced.
- Sound is what I expect from an AP pressing. It sounds amazing. I don’t care much about all boxes from a series matching, but the quality of this box is sub par compared to the older design. The clear outer sleeve doesn’t fit properly in the box without bending on the edges. There is quite a bit of movement in the box as well unlike the older design. Not really sure how this new box will hold up long term. It feels and looks cheap.
- In general, don’t BG or CB masterings have a bit more snap and punch than KG or DS? I own both OG, AP 45, and this AP UHQR. AP 45 has slighter better texture to me but they are very close. Very nice to not break up the flow of the album with the single disc 33rpm. Wood dowel box had advantage of being able to slide out lp with out removing box but they are bulky. I’m tending to prefer the Craft one step / Mofi slipcases or better yet no box. I wanted a reference level single disk version and I have it at a cost.
- Very nice! Clean, flat and quiet pressing. Very detailed and dynamic. I also have the AP 45 and I agree with marcelpd that this one has a better and a clearer mid-range. Jim's voice is right up front and he's super clear. On my system, the AP 45 has a slightly more laid back feel. This one seems to be a little more in your face. Nothing distracting of fatiguing, just super punchy. It's also cut a little hotter.
I'm supper happy to have this as a 33rpm, not having to flip or change the record every couple songs. I do prefer the new packaging. It's about half as wide as the old UHQR box so It takes up less room. Nice release overall. Great job by BG & AP!
