The Beatles' second single, released 11 January 1963 in the UK by Parlophone with catalogue number [45-]R 4983.
It was their first single in the United States, released 20 February 1963.
History: Both “Please Please Me” and the b-side “Ask Me Why” were recorded on November 26, 1962 at Abbey Road Studios, London.
VJ-498 was the first record in the United States to bear the Beatles name, released on or about February 20, 1963. Interestingly enough, Vee-Jay did not even know how to spell the group’s name. All initial issues of the record, as well as advertisements in the trade journals, added an extra “T” to the name. Thus, when VJ-498 was released in February of 1963, it was credited THE BEATTLES. The songwriters were listed as “J. Lennon-P. McCartney”.

It could be the scan but that label doesn't look like February 1964 to me.- No Ireland listing? I have Please Please Me Red Label Made in Ireland. Any information and value is welcomed.

My copy has a matrix extched number not documented here on the B side. It is 7xec 17218 3. Also, on the same side, the orange part of the swirl cut through de C instead of the a on the word Capitol.referencing Please Please Me (7", 45 RPM, Single) R 4983
This is quite obviously the 1976 re-issue that originally came in the green card picture sleeve: https://www.discogs.com/release/1374623-The-Beatles-Please-Please-Me-cw-Ask-Me-Why
It has been incorrectly placed in a late 60's Parlophone company sleeve so should not be considered a different version in any way.
What difference are they between dry mix and album [wet] mix???
My copy of this has the same matrix, runouts, same price code but is on RED colored vinyl. Any have more info on this edition?
Does this pressing feature the "Dry Mix" of ASK ME WHY?- Is there a photo of the 2nd side? The two photos only show the 1st side.
Edited one year agoLast pressing of the original "delta mono mix" I believe. Later ones all use the LP mixes.
Fantastic sounding "-2" recut. Super dynamic ! Highly reccomended.
Can anyone else with this release confirm the embossed letters on the centre of B? I have a copy with ZTMO around the spindle starting at 12 o'clock. Of course this could be OT & ZM or any other combination but I can't find reference to these tax stampers. Thanks, Ian
