referencing Seattle Concert (LP, Album) LJM-1002
Let me start by saying I'm a HUGE Duke fan, so I've heard a lot of his records, and own most of the 'official' releases (other than random compilations).
This one is a mixed bag. The performance of the Harlem suite is wonderful, and the medley is a lot of fun. But it's not a great recording. It feels very distant and kind of dark. And the first side, other than "Perdido", feels very restrained. I guess a lot of people think Duke had hit a bit of a lull around this time, before the great Newport recording in 1956 rejuvenated him. Maybe so.
