- By some strange fate of late, this item came into my possession. The bottom line, this is a digital transfer of an unaltered master. The most obvious and affecting difference is the significantly tighter and more resonant bass and the holophonic vocal harmonies, and these are clearly audible differences on every Disque Americ first press Beatles CD made in Canada. Oh yeah, remember Ringo's gong like cymbals, almost like pans sometimes, well, they are on these editions.
- In reference to variant 2, with an unlisted variant disc 1, CDP 7 46444 2 AR @ 4 1 + 8(hand etched)+ CAPITOL JAX 16. Number 009826. Another tweaked master that does have plenty of audible hiss.
- This is fantastic sound, but a little too much on the higher end . To my understandings the UK pressings are also bright. This is lacking in bass but that’s what the GM mix is for.
And no, it’s not my system or eq or subwoofer having issues.
I much prefer the Giles Martin mix when listening to this album, but I understand some do not like the mix. - presetation wise this is fantastic very nice package soundwise m copy was a bit worn but the soundstage is very good and lifelike
- Putting this on is an out of body experience. I played Helter Skelter first since it’s my favorite song, and I immediately got chills from how detailed and clear this mastering was. It was like Paul was in reach of me. This is a demonstration record. Although most Beatles records sound good, they never sound like an Audiophile record. -2/-1 Abbey Road has its shortcomings and so does the german Magical Mystery Tour. This, is literally an audiophile record. It’s unbelievable. The only flaw with this record is the noise floor. Maybe I have a dirty copy but my copy is noisy. I need to find a black vinyl pressing of this mastering. All in all, this is the “demo” record you play if you were selling equipment or vinyl to a Beatles fan. I’m so happy to own this. Easily in my top 5 favorite sounding records I own
- yet another orange label Capitol version that just flat-out destroys any other version ive ever heard (1968 Apple US and late-70s purple label US Capitol). i'm telling you, these specific orange label pressings are the best USA pressings of Beatles LPs out there. i also have "Second Album", "Help", "Yellow Submarine", and "Abbey Road" with the orange Capitol labels, and they all sound phenominal.
Good Lord this pressing sounds incredible. - Got the first pressing of this one on a vinyl fair today and it sounds incredible good. Payed 30 euro's for it, a bargain I guess
- Do yourself a favor and find a NM copy of this before the prices go up, because this is the best sounding version I’ve heard, and it’s straight from the master tapes, cut before digital was used, so it’s very pure. Sounds incredible on my very high end system. I can understand how Manson was driven mad by this album, so multi layered and complex, while also being sweet and accessible. MoFi really did great with this one.
- Edited 9 days agoThe German analogue DMM version of the white album is one of my favourite sounding records I own (I have this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/6689549-The-Beatles-The-Beatles ). There's the famous white vinyl version from 1985, which is a real grail in the Beatles catalog (https://www.discogs.com/release/2972435-The-Beatles-The-Beatles ) and there's the less famous but also highly sought after black vinyl version also from 1985, which has a few variants (the one I have or this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/2172049-The-Beatles-The-Beatles ) that can all be identified by the catalog number 1C 172 10 417 3.
Now this variant seems to be even lesser known and therefore much more affordable, here they changed to the black Parlophone labels and my guess is this was released somewhere between 1986 and 1987 (because by 1988 they switched to the digitally remastered DMM pressings). The reason I also had to get this variant is the side 2 matrix and what it suggests - and indeed I can confirm side 2 is a different/newer cut, which seems to be unique to this specific variant (although it seems this B4 cut can also be found in one variant of the BC 13 boxset). The grooves are a bit wider here and there's a bit less deadwax than on the B3 cut I have, I even measured it with a ruler to be sure my eyes aren't tripping, haha. On first listen, without any close comparison, I didn't notice a difference though, both cuts have the same amazing sound to my ears, which famously is one of the finest sounding Beatles vinyl cuts ever.
Very happy to have this and I highly recommend this, as already mentioned this (and that B3 cut with the same black Parlophone labels, linked in the release notes) is a cheaper option of this analogue DMM cut, at least for now.
