Swans ‎– The Seer

Notes:
On August 28, 2012, Swans released The Seer, a double-album running 2 hours in length. Frontman Michael Gira described the album as taking "30 years to make. It’s the culmination of every previous Swans album as well as any other music I’ve ever made, been involved in or imagined. But it’s unfinished, like the songs themselves. It’s one frame in a reel. The frames blur, blend and will eventually fade." Describing the songwriting process, Gira said, "The songs began on an acoustic guitar, then were fleshed out with (invaluable) help from my friends, then were further tortured and seduced in the studio, and now they await further cannibalism and force-feeding as we prepare to perform some of them live, at which point they’ll mutate further, endlessly, or perhaps be discarded for a while."

Not what I expected. Sounds great but I can't get on with it. There are moments on it that are great. Moments where I click with it but I can't get on with it so far. I expected it to be more extreme. Nearly half way through and it's good but it's not mind blowing. It's pretty good post rock. I think some of the tracks drag a bit but it's good. It's just not astonishing. Not for me at least. Maybe it's my own fault my own expectations for what it would be but I'm slightly disappointed with it as an album. Maybe one day I'll get it but for now. Not even half way through. I'm gonna listen to something else

I defiantly was a bit put off by the out of order tracks at first and it led me to not picking this one up for a while, but I'm glad i did, vinyl is really clean and sounds amazing (as to be expected of most YGR pressings). And while there is some debate about the mixed up track listing, i dont think it effects the listening experience as much as some led on, and i do appreciate the length they went to to get it on vinyl.

I'm not sure how I feel about the track layout on this version. While the cuts are often strategically placed during the longer songs, the longer songs are usually split in half, which can be jarring when you are in the mood of the song. Overall the pressing is excellent, there are no problems with surface noise or off center pressings.

Definitely a long shot, but just got to my copy after almost three years since I bought it and I have no disc 1, disc 2 twice, and disc 3 once. maybe someone out there has disc 1 twice and no disc 2? Get in touch

it sounds pretty good, clean it before you listen though, there were a couple small pops on my first play. jacket feels sturdy, inner sleeves are clear plastic. the track splitting is a bit annoying but it doesn't ruin it, still a great album.

does anyone know if there was a new young god pressing in 2020? i picked this up today from my local record store, which I've never seen this album at before, and it's back in stock on young god's website as well.

I think there is another press of 2020 because of the engraving by MPO in my copies. All numbers start by 20.

This 2019 repress sounds fantastic. Earlier MPO pressings can be somewhat hit and miss from my experience but their quality control is generally far better now than it used to be and all three discs boast very clean playback and strong, defined sonics.

Any difference between this and https://www.discogs.com/Swans-The-Seer/release/6028355 other than the year and that it says Special Edition? What makes this version Special over the other one?
