Carmine Coppola & Francis Coppola* – Apocalypse Now - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Neat mix, like listening to the movie, just don't put on @ a party - a perfect compliment to preparing for the 2020 election though!

My side D label is the doors waiting for the sun side 2! I scoured the web and could not find any mention of this error, the record indeed plays Apocalypse Now side 4 though.

The soundtrack for "Apocalypse Now" was first released in 1979, so be prepared for an oldschool type of soundtrack. Back then, Betamaxx and VHS were still competing formats in the young and upcoming homevideo market - so soundtracks like this one often were the only possibility to relive the movie experience at home. That means lots of dialogue and sfx on most of the tracks, only a couple feature parts of the isolated score.
In my opinion, that's a big downer considering the experimental nature of the heavy synth-laden score by Carmine Coppola and his film-director-son Francis. Think of the works of Wendy Carlos released around that time, late Berlin school electronica and a lot of haunting, eerie synth drone sounds, fitting perfectly for Cpt. Willard's trip into the heart of darkness in Cambodia.

One of the scores that deserve some sort of re-exploration and remastering by experienced labels like FSM. In the meantime you should listen to the untampered score on the Apocalypse Now Redux version. Of course, it's not complete but it's something.

This is one of the cleanest and clearest records I own. The sound quality is perfect 10/10.

I agree with sycamore, this album is amazing! What makes it amazing though is not only is this a musical soundtrack, it's a narration following the storyline. Beautiful gatefold design and pressed well for a nice thick sound. I highly recommend this if you are into the movie, soundtracks, or even just strapping headphones on and taking a sonic journey.

The track "The Nung River" a variation of "Mars" originally written by Gustav Holst for his concept album "The Planets".
Aside from this fact, this is probably one of the best soundtrack ever made. The editing is really great and shows how a soundtrack should be compiled. The dialogue and field recordings immerse you into the characters and madness of it all. Side D is by far my favorite.
