The Nice – Elegy

I didn't know, throwing this on for the first time, that it has live tracks. A1 at least is live. There is an odd moment where the tambourine suddenly moves over to the left channel, and becomes quite loud.
A bit unfortunate. It's distracting, and I think musically incongruous. But if this recording came off a venue soundboard, they either couldn't, or didn't want to remediate it.

My copy has the runout variant 3. The labels however are slightly more red, and say "KEITH EMERSON With The Nice" instead of just The Nice.

Fantastic Reissue!! Super quiet vinyl. Sounds like you're at the concert.

Hard to believe that is not a digitized REmaster and not simply a copy ie re-issue of the 1971 analog original; sounds very very suspect to my ears that fused silky sound has no 1971 feel to it .... not impressed at all

OK mea culpa then i listen to the LP and saME sound sometimes you can be wrong so weird but even the LP sounds like CD sound ok i'll get my coat :)

I believe the Fillmore East tracks were recorded in December 1969 The Byrds were the top billers

The Nice move away from their more psych influenced rock towards the future Keith Emerson keyboard dominated prog sounds of ELP.
The highlight for me is the excellent drumming from unknown but talented Brian Davison who was a pioneering progressive rock drummer and band leader cutting cut an impressive swathe across the British music scene of the late '60s, freely intermingling jazz, classical & rock influences.
Yes it may now sound somewaht pretentious & overblown but at the time (early 70's) this was new and exciting territory being explored and all the rage among a significant cohort of music lovers.

"Later version released in 1974 after Keith Emerson made it big with Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
