Underworld – Dark & Long

To me these aren't 'versions' of Dark And Long at all - but separate pieces of music, all of very high quality. If the band want to regard it as an EP of different 'mixes' of Dark And Long that's fine, but for anyone not already familiar with it, it's essentially a wonderful and distinct album of different music - and of double-LP length! It's truly a fantastic release. For anyone that isn't familiar with it, it's much much more than just your average 90s EP of dance mix knock-offs.

I added up the durations of all the versions of Dark & Long, and found that it totals to 100 minutes (or an 1h and 40 minutes) of content, more than that on the 'dubnobass...' album. If you wanted to cram it all onto one disc, you'd need to remove either '215 Miles' or 'Thing in a Book'. Tough choice.

As well as this, tracks on the 'Spikee', 'Mmm... Skyscraper', 'Rez', 'Cowgirl' and 'The Hump' singles add up to another whole album's worth of music, meaning just listening to the album is just scratching the surface of the B-sides and alternate versions. Underworld clearly wants you to not just buy the album, but dig around for everything else.

Released the same month as Dirty Epic/Cowgirl was released in the USA. So two 70+ minutes releases the same month for different markets.

im confused I have a copy but it seems that it has the dark and long mix on side A rather than Spoon and G

Man it sure is a shame about the takedown ... for a record that was pressed in 2003.

Also a shame that any real competition for Discogs has shut down so there aren't any other options for buying it. Maybe when Discogs gets around to making the other several thousand bootlegs and unofficial pressings prohibited, people will get fed up and move on to somewhere else.

I guess for now everyone will have to be happy with the one they can get for free off of YouTube. 🙄

It's such a shame they never included the still unreleased on vinyl '215 Miles' on this release. It could have been put on the B-side, with the new version of Dark Train and Most 'Ospitable on the A-side. There is no need for two versions of Dark Train on this. They've included Most 'Ospitable, which is great, but left off its sister track 215 Miles. Such a stupid decision, whoever made it.

Awesome classic tracks on the B-side, and a new fresh interpretation of the iconic version of Dark & Long on the A side. That said, I believe the track listing for this "Dark & Long 3" vinyl release should have been the following:

A1 - Dark & Long (Drift 2 Dark Train)
A2 - Dark & Long (Most 'Ospitable)
B - Dark & Long (215 Miles)

This would have prevented the duplication of "Dark & Long (Dark Train)" already present on volume 1, and left room for "Dark & Long (215 Miles)", still not available on vinyl to date.

I am not able to listen to Side B. There is way too much noise and static. Side A also has noise throughout the entire track. These problems aren't isolated to quiet portions of the tracks, but instead can be heard throughout their entire duration.

I am very unhappy with this record pressing quality. I wish I could enjoy these tracks, but the audio is just too poor quality.
