PiL* – Metal Box

Although beautifully recreated packaging wise and a good remaster I still keep going back to my original vinyl 3x12 " set as Jah Wobbles monumental bass sound just envelops you.

I'm with flowerbed's comments below. I have a copy of Metal box which has always jumped and skipped throughout. I just treat mine now as a collectors piece and curiosity and I don't attempt to play it. Therefore it looks pristine (the records that is) as the tin of course has oxidised. Sad.

Any UK seller with just the tin in reasonable state they want to sell? Please message me. Though I kind of love my version - the three original vinyls in handmade filthy worn sleeves with the lyrics and other annotated pictures glued to exteriors. Car boot in Cornwall some years ago. Still sounding as fresh as ever. (As a tender 16 yr old saw them at Futurama in Sept 1979, and they blew my mind...)

For information. I bought this the week it was released. It did NOT have the printed sheet inside. However, this must have happened to many of the initial batches which went out for sale. I remember getting a copy of the insert in one of the music papers a few weeks later (either NME or Sounds). This might explain why a lot of copies appear to be missing the insert.
Still loving my copy. Very little of the tin remains untarnished, but I like it that way. The inside has faired better, but has tarnished where greasy fingerprints have been (possibly due to salt in sweat). Again, I don't mind this.

I just picked this up on japanese vinyl. Mine does not have poster. If anyone has one they want to sell hit me up. I have all other P.I.L. albums on.Japanes vinyl. I have The Cure, Bauhaus, Cocteau twins japanese releases as well. They all just explode on your turn table. The new 180 gram remasters don't even come close.

Any suggestions for how to store this? Something about keeping these in the tin, separated by the paper dividers, makes me feel like they will be damaged. Maybe I'm paranoid but I feel like keeping the vinyl in poly sleeves with the tin kept separate... is this ridiculous?

I did a back to back comparison to my original copy of Metal Box and it sounded identical.

Excellent sounding and looking reissue. I had my reservations when I first saw it back in 2006, but, because I wasn't ready to put down the coin for a first issue, I picked it up. And I am glad I did. It is a great copy in all respects.
